M1210 Shutdown Problems

Thread Starter
Hey all,
As everybody knows, it is normal to have a few background programs that need to be forced to close when we shut down.

For example, " This program is not responding", then you have the 'End Now', button.

Well usually 8/10 times i will have up to, and in excess of 15 of these windows when i do the standard shutdown, and will often have to turn off the computer by holding the power button. And usually the same program will pop up after i have tried to end it.

The reason why i have posted this thread is because it is really annoying when i need to finish quickly, please i ask you if you have any information as to how i can stop these stupid annoying messages that pop up, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thnx,
Alexander S.

Thnx jayno20,
I ran an ad-aware spyware test and it found 61 files originating from one source!!!
Im not sure if that was causing it, because i still get a few forced ending of programs, its probably just came from the typical problem, not influenced by spyware.
The weird thing is, ive only had it since Jan '07? and had antivirus software before it had access to internet, it might have travelled through my LAN from my desktop?

Anyway, id like to give you some positive rep, if only i knew how?

ARGH!!! Its still happening!
It seems to happen with more windows when i have run more programs compared to if i just turn on then shut down. everythng i tried hasn't even dropped the amount of windows that pop up.

Is there anything else besides viruses and spyware that could be causing this?
what program specifically is causing it?

The programs that popup always change, sometimes a program will popup more than once in the same shutdown and other times it wont come up for 2 or 3 shutdowns.

The programs that do come up are ALWAYS background processes and never 'user applications' (eg. Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word).

Because the same programs popup intermittently i will update this post with every new program that comes up :
* explorer.exe
*CL RC Engine3Dummy Window
*Gsm Event Window
*Dot1XCfg.exe
*End Session Handling
*Hidden Fax Window
*BT Tray
*MCI command handling window
*Cicero ??? (couldnt catch the rest of it)

download spybot, and ad-aware. both are free and they will sniff out anything on ur system that shouldnt be there..

Also if you can download "Hijackthis" do a scan and copy it to a post and show it here so we can find out just HOW badly youve gotten infected. Right now the 100% way out of this is to reformat otherwise its going to be a lengthy repair.

Also note an Antivirus program does NOT protect you from adware based infections an AntiVirus Suite may include a anti spyware program but it depends on which ones you use.

I ran them, found some stuff, but unfortunatley the problem still remains
post #13 of 16
have u scanned for viruses with nod lately with updated signatures?
if all else fails u can try some registry hacks if u feel comfortable with it, i have my machine setup like this for fastest shutdown... but again these arent for people who know very little about what they are doing so only do this is u feel comfortable modifying the registry..

Start - Run - Regedit
Navigate to the following Registry key:
HKEY CURRENT USER\Control Panel\Desktop
Double click on the AutoEndTasks entry and replace the 0 with a 1 in the Value data text box

For the next two, if the dword value indicated does not exist, create it:
Double click on the WaitToKillAppTimeout entry in the right pane and change the Value data to 2000
Double click on the HungAppTimeout entry in the right pane and change the Value data to 1000

then go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
Right-click on WaitToKillServiceTimeout and change it to 2000

then Reboot

In reguards to your reply (2nd up, including this one), i scan with nod32 approx every 2 weeks. Signatures update daily, so i dont think theres anythng it doesnt recognise.

Now your current post, what i think im going to end up doing is a format of my computer. I dont keep much stuff on my HDD so i should be fine. My friend will help me because he has done it approximatley 5 times with his pc (so u dont have to explain the formatting procedure.)

I really want to thank all people that replied to my crappy problem and offered help. Thanks
