I am buying my gf a computer for her birthday .. she really wants a Mac.... should i get the macbook or macbookpro.

She is concerned because she uses alot of architectural programs.. mainly Archtectural Desktop. Will the macbook run this program good enough or should I go with the macbook pro???

2d stuff itll do alright. as soon as the cad stuff gets 3d, "houston we have a problem"

ive used both for CAD work. first the MB, and now a pro. While the MB was sufficient for basic CAD stuff, between the larger screen, nicer more solid design, and dedicated video card.... the mbp was the correct replacement model.

now, i find im not doing any CAD work but i still have the machine

I'd say Macbook Pro as her cad work advances she will make critical use of her videocard and the Macbook just cant handle it

She will probably appreciate the larger screen size of the MBP. It will give her much more real estate to work on, pun intended.

if she is doing cad, also id go with the matte screen.

while i love my glossy, its very unpleasant during CAD work

Yeah she is doing cad... the matte screen is a good point. I was planning on getting her the optional apple HD 23" Screen... but I guess sicne all you guys say go with macbook pro then I think I should go with that

Fellas, fellas.....
Who says the MBP wont run architecture apps?
My Archicad 10 smokes on the MBP.
I use it in conjunction with my 30" Dell.
A very mobile and robust little rig.
No problems orbiting, panning, zooming in models.... rendering times are pretty decent.

As far as Architectural Desktop with Vista on Bootcamp.......not sure.
2D will be fine. But if your doing Autodesk Inventor or 3D Max stuff.....graphic intense....high shaders, high polycounts.......then the MPB might not fit.
You have to ask.....are most of the apps going to be Windows versions? If so...go with a Dell Precision 17" lappy with a kick ass vid card.
