Same Problem with Dell Battery
I bought a Dell Inspiron E1505 Notebook about a year ago. I decided to have them install the longer-life battery, Li-ion, Rating: 11.1v, Type KD476, Capacity 85w. I don't think I've actually used the notbook more than three or four times on the battery alone. It sits on a notbook stand and is always plugged in to AC power. Two days ago, I happened to notice the battery light flashing green then orange. I wasn't too concerned since I have another Inspiron, an 1100, which does the same thing once in awhile. When this happens on the 110, I start up the computer, right click in the middle of the screen and open the window that shows the power level of the battery, right click it and then double click the battery icon, and click reset. Then I usually shut the computer off and the light goes off too, as the battery is recharging itself. I thought I could do the same thing with the E1505, since it appeared to be the same unknown issue. However, when I shut the computer off, the light is still flashing. To make the light stop flashing, I disconnected the computer from AC power. For some reason, the flashing only happens when the AC is plugged in and the battery is also connected. I have not had this occur before, so I am puzzled as to what is going on. I had the notebook off AC power for about 2 hours about a week ago, and then returned it to the stand and plugged the AC back into it. I didn't get any flashing lights then, and assumed that the battery would just recharge itself. I checked online for answers, but only got conflicting info, even from Dell. One site said the battery might be overheated and suggested unplugging the AC until the battery was at room temperature. Did that. Had no effect. Another site suggested that the indicator was displaying because the battery was charging. That seems possible, however, the power indicator shows the battery to be fully charged. The test button on the battery itself also shows a full charge. All this being said, I am still getting a flashing orange battery light. I just remived the battery and plugged the computer in to AC and the light went off. Obviously, there is a problem with the battery, but I can't figure out what it might be. Anyone have any thoughts on a solution? Thanks!
