Any opinions on the F3SV?

Thread Starter
I've been looking into getting a laptop for awhile now, and a friend of mine has suggested ASUS a couple times, so I've been doing some research. I've found the F3SV on newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220163) and I'm liking the specs, though the price is getting up there for me.

I was wondering if anyone knows much about them. Also, based on my needs, if there is a better one out there for me.

So first off:
I'm a college student who wants a semi-light, easy-to-carry-around notebook with a 15" screen because I'm majoring in graphic design so I don't want anything smaller for Photoshop, Quark, Illustrator, etc. I'm looking for something that will last me a long time, hardware-wise and build-wise. I also want to game on it a bit, though that isn't the primary purpose. I also probably wouldn't play the newest games on there, probably stuff like Call of Duty 2, KOTOR, maybe some HL2, CS:S, Jedi Outcast. I'm looking at 120GB HD, a dedicated graphics card with at least 128MB dedicated memory. I need at least 1GB of memory, and it must be 1x1GB, because I'll want to be able to upgrade it to 2GB fairly cheaply. A webcam would be nice, but not necessary. And the hard part is getting it in my budget of trying not to exceed $1400 (I am a student).

So with these things in mind, I've looked at a couple different things: first, the Alienware 5550, the HP dv6000t (hey, it's cheap), the IBM T60, and the ASUS F3SV.

I'm also looking at the F3SV-B1
I WAS looking at the Thinkpad T61 but I have a relatively narrow window for delivery and their apparent backlog problems are more than a little scary. I return to the US July 4 and go back to China on August 8 so if I can't get a guaranteed delivery between those dates I'll have to pass on the ThinkPad. The F3SV is available now and it looks really good. Many questions, though:
1. I see VGA, DVI AND S-Video ports on the F3SV-B1 pictures. Does that mean I can run (with Vista AND/OR XP) (with a DVI or S-Video to RGB adapter) three monitors? Believe it or not, with a class of 30 Chinese students, most of whom are near-sighted and refuse to wear glasses, running video to an overhead projector AND TV while using the LCD to control the presentation (often simultaneous Power point, VLC Player/sometimes Media Player classic and Media player for sound files), is quite beneficial. I would also love to run VGA and DVI monitors AND the LCD simultaneously. I often run, cut, copy and paste between Snagit, Photoshop, Power Point, Word, Excel and IE at the same time, REALLY!
2. With 3 Gigs of RAM, is Turbo Memory (Robson - assuming I go with Vista) any benefit whatsoever?
3. It seems Asus build quality is as good as the ThinkPad. I don't often teach gorillas so I don't know what good a roll cage is.
4. I like the 2-year, global, included warranty. Realistically, anything over two years for a laptop is a bonus anyway.
5. Convention says that memory works best when installed in pairs. I might eventually go with a 64-bit OS but for now, will I see an improvement with 1Gig and 2 Gig SoDIMMs over 2 one Gig SoDIMMs?
6. I've found 2 re-sellers who'll upgrade the RAM (to 3 Gigs) and hard drive (to a 100-120 Gig 7200 RPM. Their pricing is within a $100, 20 Gigs of HD, an upgrade to Vista Ultimate and a free bag so I'm looking for testimonials RE GenTech and Milestone PC. After market service will be provided in China so I'm looking for short-term, delivery/DOA performance.
7. I don't do any gaming or CAD but I really like zippy performance and like to "buy into the future" (not to mention the cachet of the latest and greatest, at least for a week or two). Are the GeForce G8600M GS and T7500 (2.2 Ghz) worth 1.5 times what the T7100 (1.8 Ghz) and onboard Intel GMA X3100 on the F3E-A1 are?
8. Assuming the above answer is "No", does anyone know of a reliable, online reseller who would upgrade the RAM, HD and OS (to Vista Ultimate) of a F3E?
All useful answers win a week's accommodation in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province PRC. BTW, Xuzhou is nowhere near Beijing or the 2008 Olympics!!
