960x600 on a 1920x1200 (WUXGA)

Thread Starter
Hey everyone. I've recently upgraded my 9300 to a 7800gtx go, and its been amazing. At least twice as fast as my 6800 go.
However the latest games like STALKER seem to push it to the absolute max. Best way to play it atm seems to be using a lower non-native resolution.
However would it be possible to use a native resolution (like 960x600) on the 1920x1200 dell screen?

I've been trying with the Dell 84.69's and have been unable to achieve this mode satisfactorily. Basically what happens with custom timings, using a 960*600 resolution, is that the screen is displayed twice over. Literally I get my video signal twice on the screen, side by side. Seems the monitor *sorta* supports 960*600. However whenever I try to stretch it/not stretch it using the nvidia drivers, the screen just goes black and I have to hibernate/standby to get it back.

Any suggestions?

not sure about the res.

but i play stalker on 1440x900res and all the settings in the middle and have draw distance way up and have the lighting all on to max and get playable fps like high 20s min and 30s and 50s

and i tried everything up and tried a lower res but i perfer the higher res and middle settings because it just looks better.

i am able to run 960x600 by adding a custom resolution with powerstrip.

Indeed, if a game supports 16:10 widescreen down to 1280x800, your best bet will be to simply adjust the performance options in-game to make it run at 1280x800. That's the lowest 16:10 resolution commonly supported by games.

Resolutions like that are set by the game, and are probably independent of any custom timings you're going to set. There are various places that will give you modding tools to modify the game (either through custom config/inf files or by patching the EXE) to run at new resolutions, but they often produce a non-ideal experience since the game isn't designed to run at those resolutions (HUD scaling is frequently an issue). By contrast, if a game supports 1280x800, it's going to work properly without any messing around.

yeah dude try 1280x800 or 1440x900 and get some good drivers like XGs mobileforce 9x.xx from www.tweaksrus.com or geforcetony's thread, since those dell are really old and really crappy
