I understand that the Latitude D420 has on-board 512MB RAM and a single slot for an additional PC2-4200 (DDR2 533MHz) stick.

Has anyone tried using a single 2GB PC2-4200 stick in this slot to see if the D420 can recognize the entire 2.5GB of RAM ?

Most documentation I have seen on the D420 states that the maximum memory capacity is 1.5GB, but I am wondering if this is a hard system limitation. For one thing, when configuring a new D420, Dell themselves offer an option for total 2GB memory (for a whopping $409 extra, I might add).

Newegg is selling a 2GB G.Skill PC2-4200 stick for $135 right now, so if this works, I might get it (that is if I decide to get the D420 in the first place ... see my question on this thread if interested).
