AW and Laptop Noobzor :> (2 Simply Questions Inside)

Hello, Im rather new to laptops as Im looking to purchase my first, and my knowledge on computers is basic, but I am not a complete ignorant..

My first question is, I have customized a M9700 and this is how it came out, only one problem, its alil costly and such.. The system will be used for graphic intensive games, altho I wont be doing much other then gaming and writing articles for class (I will do my best to not burn CPU with multiple proccesses at the same time too)..

Heres the system I want:
Processor: AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile ML44 2.4GHz 800MHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache
Operating System (Office software not included): Genuine Windows® Vista Home Premium
Motherboard: Alienware® NVIDIA® Mobile SLi Chipset
Memory: 2GB Dual Channel DDR SO-DIMM at 400MHz - 2 x 1024MB
System Drive: Extreme Performance (RAID 0) - 200GB (100GB x 2) Serial ATA 1.5Gb/s 7,200 RPM w/ NCQ & 8MB Cache
Video/Graphics Card: Dual 256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS - SLI Enabled
Wireless Network Card: Internal 802.11b/g WiFi Card w/ Airgo MIMO Technology
Communications: Integrated 10/1000Mb Gigabit Ethernet & 56K V.92 Modem
Primary Battery: Alienware® m9700 12-cell Lithium-Ion Smart Battery Pack
Power: Additional Battery - Alienware® Aurora m9700 12-cell Lithium-Ion Battery
Warranty: 1-Year AlienCare Toll-Free 24/7 Phone Support w/ Onsite Service

How is it? Too powerful for price? Is it a bit overkill and can I still run the games I want with ease and skim alil off the top.. Is Vista a waste, should I go with XP cause Ive heard mixed reviews.. Plus the SLI function disabled on Vista and having to watch to patch on that doesnt make me uber happy..

My second question, I've searched and searched and read this forum abit, has there, or are there ever and rebates or deal offers for alienware (specifically with the M9700) or is alienware too high class for a coupon :P...

Any any any input is appreciated..

They offer discounts, but its anyone's guess as to when. I don't know if you're aware of it, but the new m9750 should be launched within the next few weeks, which will feature Core 2 Duo processors and SLI 7950 graphics cards. You're best bet is to wait for this beast and really get what you pay for.

I heard of the M9750 however when I went to AW's site and looked it up, got nada...

Again, it isn't officially out, but here's a link to the configurer, which is active, but not linked back to alienware.com yet.

http://www.alienware.com/Configurato...-51_m9750.aspx

I would seriously advise looking at that before buying a 9700. Last I heard the cases have been delayed till the end of the month....

If you can wait for the m9750. With the Core 2 Duo processors and the SLI 9750 GTX's it will be a screaming notebook for gaming. Also, if you do a lot of gaming consider going with Win XP. I got Vista preinstalled on my AW desktop and it was just awful for gaming. It also has some compatibility issues with some games. On the other hand, Vista is real pretty and doing office tasks is not bad at all, I really liked it when I was doing those things. So in the end, in my opinion, if you plan on gaming get XP and the m9750.

I looked at and configured myself an M9750 Pretty sweet.. But then again $800 more then the config I had for the M9700..

I have a feeling Im creating a computer overly powerful (which doesnt exsist unless you have a budget which I do) I'd love to see a really good config for 2500-3000 (3000 max ish)

How often do the AW rebates pop up for the laptops?
Sticky, I don't know that the happen. I have seen discounted accessory bundles or extras added in to your purchase.

Well if I was you, I'd be getting a 9750, even if I had to bump the config way down (including one graphics card) and buy another later. The C2D will outperform the Turion hands down, and the 9750 graphics cards are quite powerful compared with the 9700's.

the coupons come out maybe on 4th of july and definantly back to school sale ones but its a bi@tch knowing which coupon to go for like last year when i was going to get an m9700. heres what they do for like 2 weeks, every 2 days a new coupon comes out for a diffrent system (around 2-3 each system) and the first coupon could a dollar off and the 3rd could $500 off so its just a pain in the ass to get the biggest discount . im willing to bet there will be many for the m9700 and m9750. I plan to order my m9750 at september to get a big discount.=)

Good to know Big Will, Sad to hear I might have to wait so long for a rebate.. But might have no choice :O

Im glad to be getting some responses or feedbacks even if most of you think I am an idiot and know nothing, Im willing to learn and look dumb doing it ...

You'll hear more from me, and maybe one day, hopefully sooner then later I can post the "OmG fellows I gots me a uber machine capable of world d0minat10n 1337"
