Help me find a notebook...

Alright, I've done some browsing and searching on this forum, and ya'll seem to be wicked smart, but I haven't really been able to piece together exactly what I'm looking for via all your posts. So, anyways, here goes...

Essentially, I am looking for a notebook that I can use as a desktop replacement, but isn't 50lbs. I will be heading to grad school this fall, so I want something that I can take with me on occasion, but I won't be carrying it everywhere. I want to game some, with some of the newer games my current desktop and laptop can't handle (specifically, M:TW2 and SC2 when it comes out). The screen size doesn't really concern me - ideally, I will be able to set up a laptop dock so I can just plug/unplug my computer and run. Is that feasible?

I won't be doing many multimedia tasks, and am thinking about getting an external HD to put all my music/pictures/papers on. I don't really play music from the computer, I just use it to transfer songs onto my iPod, and I can keep any papers I need on the internal HD. Obviously, I will be doing excel/word/outlook tasks, but pretty much any computer can run those now...right?

And, I don't want to spend a ton of cash if I can avoid it. So, basically, I want the perfect computer for cheap

If anyone can suggest a computer/components/quality dealers outside the big ones (dell, sony, hp, gateway), and/or a good laptop dock that will take a screen, Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard (I think they have both USB and regular connections), speakers, and 1 or 2 extra USB ports, and/or a good cooling system, I'd greatly appreciate it.

If you want to call me an 1d107 n00b, that's fine too

hmm, Id recommend something a 14 inch widescreen or 15.4 inch widescreens. Unless you are going to plug those guys into 19+ inch monitors I would not bother plugging a monitor to those.

Asus is having a nice collection of new santa rosa models, have a look:

I think you could find one in your specs. Make sure you get a nice resolution on the screen (ie. WSXGA) The Asus G1 is pretty nice but a bit bigger than regular 15.4 inch notebooks.

There is also this branch called zepto (www.zepto.com) which offers two new santa rosa notebooks (6625WD and 6224W ). I have absolutely no idea what the build quality of those is (ie. the case) since there are no reviews yet available. However you can get a very nice system on zepto for a very good price, but does only have a VGA port.

I think you need to have a look on those.

As for the dock, I personaly have never used one and didnt find any need to use one. If you really want to connect a monitor to your laptop you can do so without a problem.
