until today the way i understood the m7700 was that any motherboards under 6.1 could only take up to a GeForce GO 6800. but today while browseing the download section on the AW website i found the following under bios'.

the readme as presented by the people at AW:

"For Models: Area-51/MJ-12 m7700 (17.0" LCD)

This BIOS update is presented in an ISO format, and may be used to create a bootable CD-ROM with all the necessary files to flash your BIOS. Apply this update ONLY if you are experiencing problems with your system.

Features and fixes in this BIOS release:

* Supports the NVIDIA Go7800 GTX

Before you run the BIOS update:

* Make sure that your computer has the battery and the AC-Adapter connected
* Disconnect any third party peripherals connected to the computer
* Do NOT turn the computer off during the BIOS update
* Do NOT restart the computer during the BIOS update
* Do NOT eject the CD-ROM from the drive during the BIOS update

CAUTION: Improperly updating or flashing the BIOS CMOS chip on a motherboard can damage it to the point of rendering it useless. Accordingly, you should perform this BIOS update only with the assistance of an Alienware technical support agent. Performing this BIOS update without such assistance will void your system's warranty.

MOBO version 5.3 cant' support 7800,7900 or 7950
it will kill your MOBO at best chance
the power consumption for those cards are higher than what the 5.3 can offer
also 5.3 has many heat issues that what i belive it will instantly die if you try to install any of those cards.
to use 7800, 7900 or 7950 you need 6.1 MOBO at least with a 220W power supply

Sager owner (D900T/9880) here.

I don't claim to be an expert by any means, but recently my 6800 Ultra crapped out and Sager replaced it under waranty with a 7800GTX. The MB is still the original 5.x version. On a possibly related note however, the drive controller on the MB just went out. FWIW.
