Acer Aspire 1710 Review - Page 54

Sorry for the double post.
Also I forgot to mention that I also updated my BIOS with no problems. Updated from 3A20 to 3A25.

Well, if the only thing that is fixed with the new bios is the System Information bug, this version shoudn't be called 3A21? I hope this question doesn't sound too stupid to you.
Most likely there were some minor updates/fixed/revisions between 3A20 and 3A25. However, they were not made public. In the latest release, the revision history text file is not there so the changes or modifications from 3A20 to 3A24 are unknown at the present time.

So my RAM running @ 160 MHz on full & 159.6 MHz on the slower .
I getting the idea
I do have FSB : DRAM 5:4 right ?

Bazzio got FSB 133 : 4 = 33.25 x 5 ( 4:5 right ? ) = FREQ 166.25 MHz

I have FSB 200 : 5 = 40 x 4 ( 5:4 right ? ) = FREQ 160 MHz

That sux , i'm ordering DDR400 & hoping i gonna get FSB : DRAM 4 : 4 = 200 MHz ( or 199,5 MHz )

Hope they gonna work Corsair Value Select (Dual Pack) 184 Pin 512MBx2 DDR PC-3200

Done deal

omg i need help!!!
well seems like i got a virus, first thing that thing did was to delete norton .exe!! then it deleted a lot of other stuff as well.
it seems like there is no way to fix this because i can t install any anti virus programm right now anyways because of the bug .well i was just gonne recover the system with the recovery cd's,well it doesn t work!!!!it starts the process but tyhen just stops swipping the HD!!after being on hold with acer for about 30 min. i talked to someone who will send me new recovery cd 's but for some reason i think it might not work ether.what has me concerned is, that he was always suggesting HD problems so i might have to get a new hd.
what do i have to look for ,which hd will pop into my ugly child that only a mother could love?
or maybe someone even now how i can fix my system?
thx,
Jim

Have you tried to install the untivirus program in safe mode? Once I had a virus with same behaviour. In safe mode it didn't load in the memory and I was able to fix the infection.

Hm

Other thing why have Back up HDD .

If you got nothing important to loose , just format HDD few times & install fresh software ,,, or copy all software from Back up HDD ( that Maxtor software i had was making same OS copy as i have on my master HDD ,,, too bad my MOBO have not see that HDD after i plug it in )

I got my HDD partitioned to 3 HDD & i don't realy think if whole HDD gonna give up , stop spinning or something like that , i gonna get something from that others HDD
Good HDD till 2005-01-20 for $50+

allmost forgot , you gotta have other PC to format that HDD .
So sorry if this not gonna work for you , but it work for me

Has anyone tried the Forceware 71.40 or 71.50 drivers?

Also another thing.

A few days ago I finished the Vampires A Masquarade - Bloodlines. A very good game. I enjoyed it a lot. The performance of my little beast was more than satisfying.

A friend of mine has desktop PC with a Samsung LCD monitor 19'' and a GeForceTi4800 256MB.
He installed the game and when he tried to play it the monitor displayed a message : ''The selected mode is not supported''. We tried every resolution that is supported on the monitor but always the same message.

Then, we tried from the nvidia display properties to force the refresh rate for every resolution to 60Hz. The game worked perfectly! But this also means that the game was increasing the refresh rate of the monitor and because it is LCD monitor, it couldn't display anything at refresh rates above 60Hz.

Is it possible a game to increase the refresh rate in our laptops and maybe cause damage to our monitors?

Is it possible that when I played the game in my beast, the refresh rate was lets say 65Hz and by this way limiting the life expectancy of the LCD monitor?

I also now forced the refresh rate for all resolutions to 60Hz, but I am still wondering if something like that is possible.

I do use 71.50
& i did try refresh rate 75 Hz , it works but i can't say is it safe for our LCD.

Thanks for the info ZZTOP77.

I would like also to ask you if you have seen increased temperature in the GPU and/or the CPU with these drivers. I read that the 71.40 and 71.50 increase up to 10 degrees Celsium the GPU temperature even in idle mode. Have you experienced anything like that?

Also, the performance with these new drivers? Is it better? Worse?

I have the Omega 61.77 and when I play Painkiller, I have some strange slow downs, like the vsync is on and it tries to keep stable the fps. But I have vsync forced to off. Could that be from the refresh rate that I forced to 60HZ? I did that from the nvidia laptop display-> override resolution refresh rate.

Drivers

Temp go up about up to 3C on GPU & CPU.
I dont realy know if that happend after i have instal new BIOS or what.
I did move my lappy on other place , wormer room & change layout my lappy , before was like 15% slope , now is flat , so before i got like 1/4" to 1" gap under & now is flat , 1/4" , so that means less air . Thats why my tem is up , the room temp is up too , too cold outside
I will gonna try raise rear legs for 1/4" well see.
Anyway , i move lappy like week after i got the 71.50 drivers so that temp pic was from that time.

About that drivers , i was having problem with set up on my lappy.
So i custom build them .
After like few days playing with them got basic idea , what is need, what is garbage & how must looks NV4 disp.info to make it work.
Guys from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ don't like me too much , but if they drivers & Modded INF don't work for me all the time ( some of them do, but not all of them )
& some was running but got F.U. refresh rate in game like Doom3 & can' play the game So i gotta make them to work for me anyway

The older drivers are better for benchmarks.
The new drivers are better for new games.
Is up to you what you looking for

I gonna get my new 1GB DDR400 on fri or sat , so i will run some benchmarks

About that refresh rate for LCD , what i know is disabled for like last 4-5 drivers , so i must dig from some 6x.xx
I gonna need write to Acer tech. support for detail LCD spec , if is possible to handle 70 or 75 Hz for long period time , or anybody got it allready ?????????????

Only problem what i find out is i kill multiple monitors ( don't use them anyway ) but if somebody loan me a 30" LCD i will fix it

WARNING !! DON'T PLAY WITH YOUR GPU DRIVERS !! YOU MAY DAMAGE YOUR GPU OR SYSTEM !!!

I forgot

I use drivers what was not ment to be use by NVIDIA FX GO 5700 GPU , but some others GPU.
So if you find drivers for MOBILE NVIDIA FX GO 5700 on http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ they will do work with no problem .
I hope nobody gonna have some misunderstanding .

Ok. I installed the 71.40 drivers and yes, the temperature of the GPU increased 5 degrees. I double checked it, uninstalled the 71.40, installed again the Omega 61.77 and back again to 71.40.
The temperature rises 5 degrees with the new drivers.

Well, I don't think that matters very much, what do you think?

Ram

works @ 200 MHz , 1:1
Timings 2,5 - 3 - 3 - 8(was 7)

5C is not that much , but if that temp change rise the fan speed , is get a bit noisy for just web browsing , don't you think ?

Got some pic , last snaq shot is from mobile meter runing from cold start for 2h 45min now on.
I did clean up the dust & re "grease" the CPU.
Well see how the temp goes.
Bios 3A25 , GPU O'C to 3D performace default ( 350/580 ) , drivers 71.50

What CPU do you got ? If Northwood its odd
If Prescott , they about few ºC warmer

I know my GPU stays under 80ºC , i catch only like 72ºC right after i quit game & i do use O'C .
But i newer check CPU temp , well nex time
On HDD i reach 65ºC so far after i back up my HDD ,,,, about 40 GB pic & software ,,,,,, it took about 35 min by slowass USB2
Or maybe that USB2 is ok, but that original Seagate HDD & my external enclosure are not good combo

BTW it was running cooler then now like week ago , but i have not yet figure out what it's cause.
