If they did it, don't touch that , they probably know what they doin, & if your temp drop down for 10°C , i dont think you gonna squeze more °C down ,,, try ask around what others got on exacly same configuration , 171X may vary, right ?

Or try put something like pads/legs 1" or so , just raise your lappy a bit from table , migt help .

Good point if you've got a desktop PC.
He says he has stock dvd-rw, could you fit any of those in a laptop?

Try different media, it may help.

What software are you using?
I have had problems with NTI but Nero and RecordnowMax works fine.

Those Burners will not fit into a laptop (unless your talking about the external ones).

A laptop burner can be found here

A slim external version can be found Here

I have looked on google, but have found nothing so far, and looked in the registry, and found something, but it doesn't work. I know it's possible to play the music within folders, but when I tried changing the C:\My MP3 folder to a different folder in the registry, it didn't work (all I heard were two clicks)

Any ideas?
TIA
Does anyone know if any of these settings are stored in the BIOS and are hidden (or left out)?

No green sound bars

Hi ppl.

I recently formatted my aspire 1714 and reinstalled WinXp on it.
I have it fully updated (SP2 latests patches, directx 9.0c, latest forceware (71.80), acer site sound drivers).
My question is the following: when i press the buttons of the laptop to raise or lower the sound, the green bars that used to appear in the screen to show the level of sound don't appear anymore. I don't know why because i have the same sound drivers I had before formatting it.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Thks in advance

I'm not sure if this is the case but I belive that you need to ensure you have installed the Intel Chipset drivers. You may want to check to see if you have them installed.

Try to press FN+F9, because you don´t need any software to make the buttons work..
The FN+F9 works, but doesn't display the green message on the screen either, meaning that the sound bars don't apear also...

Hey guys

Got new HDD & some benches
The 200 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 Plus ST3200822A
is a bit warmer & more noisy compare to my WD , but faster
That 160GB Seagate i tried was ultra quiet , maybe 1C warmer compare to 200GB Seagate , but little bit slow .
Now running @ 50-55C.

HDD:54ºC

The fan is working fine, but i can't understant why the CPU gets so hot... I even bought a termaltake coolpad, but there is no major improvements...
Oh boy, get rid of the thermal pad.

The contact between the heat sink and the CPU is critical for good cooling.
The "grease" you use makes a BIG difference.

The best one to use is Arctic Silver (not any other "silver" product - many
of them do NOT contain sufficent silver). www.arcticsilver.com
www.tomshardware.com did a test on these at one time, and this was the
best. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS, though.

I'd be interested in your results. I cleaned up mine and used arcticsilver, and
got a few degrees cooler performance.
Typical, light load
CPU: 43
GPU: 51
HDD: 49
Ambient: 45 (inside the case)

Heavy load, short period:
CPU: 52
GPU: 80 (Doom3, High quality, OC 410/651)

My CPU fans go to "2nd gear" at 41, and "3rd gear" at 51.

- Eric

HDD: 51
