My note is a 1714smi, 2Giga Ram 120ATA
I clocked it at 3400@3650Mhz ( I need power for 3dsmax)
Gpu 499/689 ( Quadro 1400FX forced)
Very Sable.

Cpu temp In max Load: 69'
Hd temp :59'

Bench: aquamark 30542.

The notebook is fantastic! 2x 3dsMax7 in Render + photoshop 8 + acad2005 + Realviz Image Modeller, and I can work well !

Opening the bottom of the pc, I noticed that the CPU is installed without any dissy!!??! Only direct air flow from the fan. Is this Correct? Can I use a copper dissy?

Last: I need a software to rise up The Vcore ( +0.5 and the the will work fine at 3700/3800MHz) but i Can't find it.

Rockberto: I'll try to find where to buy the uj-840, I'm interested too.

Hi all. Maxx

Kuno may i ask how in the world did you get that graphics card????
The Vcard is a FX 5700go 128M ( default )
With Softquadro I used quadro FX 1400 drivers ( 3ds max in same bench goes 3 times faster!)
The normal core is 350/580 @ 399/689.

Looking the bottom of my pc I can see the cpu, and there is no dissy on it, is it normal?

Does anyone know what the settings are for the 1712 smi since the above information is for the 1714?

P4HT 3.0Ghz

I would like to experiment for both performance and slowing things down for battery preservation (get those few extra minutes), I've figured out how to activate the PowerMizer settings on the nVidia 5700 (it gives a bogus error about the wrong video card, but I got about a 20% increase in battery life from it at the cost of a 50% performance hit) since I use it about 3x a month on a comparatively short 2 1/2 hour flight.

I would like to see the following information:

Mainboard Choice
Mainboard Type
PLL Manufacture
PLL Type

The help file for the aforementioned program is minimal, so any help would be greatly appreciated in hardware information, and settings to use.

Thanks in advance.

Finally

I've got my labtop back after 6 long weeks of waiting and a lot of phonecalls with Acer. Well not my 1711 smi but a brand new Aspire 1801 wsmi. After 2 days i'm now getting used to the widescreen, but hard to find good wallpapers and not optimal for playing games. But the quality of the screen is so much better (looking), it's got a more shiny surface, just like the Sony Vaio. The specs are almost the same compared to my "old" 1711. P4 2,93 Mhz Prescott (Pitty, cause old one was a Northwood), 80 Gig HD, 533 mhz, ATI radeon X600 128 mb, Bluetooth and bla bla bla. But the best thing is the weight, it's 4.5 kg. Another strange thing is that Acer installs XP with Fat32 and thus splits the disks in 2 partitions??? Well, i hope this one will work without any troubles for the next few years Oh, i've had a talk with the manager of Acer Support about a complain letter i wrote. (A little reminder, my 1711 was away for it's 4th reparation in 5 months and therefore they decided i would get a new labtop. But twice DHL ****ed up, so it seemed later, the delivery. Maybe it was a corrupt employee of DHL???) A long story short, as a compesation of all things that went wrong i also got the 3 years extra guarantee for free.

I have been using my 1712 for 7 months now. I fried a 512 MB ram stick which Acer promptly replaced. The other issue I had was that I had to do a system restore after a failed Nvidia driver installation corrupted the whole thing. Overall I like the notebook but my only complaint would be noise. Does anybody know what to do to reduce the speed of this 3 Ghz HT Northwood CPU? Oh...another thing...are you 1712 owners aware that this gorgeous screen does not actually produce truecolor 8 bit per pixel depth. Instead all we get is 6 bpp good for only 262k colors. The manual says that the screen has 16.2 million colors, which is mathematically impossible. I think the chip that produces the color uses advenced dithering to trick the eye. Cheap!

Kuno,
I also run Max 7.0
When you say that Max runs 3 times faster when using the Quadro drivers, are you talking OGL or D3D? D3D is way faster than OGL anyway, I wonder if you get 3 times better performance on both API's.
If the Quadro drivers make a huge difference, could you provide a link for downloads and installation. Grazie e auguri!

Anyone purchased the Nvidia GeForce FX Go5700 128mb card from Acer. What is the price now? Is it worth the money.

I do photography and am getting into the digital world with the purchase of a Fuji S2 or S3. I edit and manipulate a lot of images.

Thanks again, all answers in the past have been very helpful

HI, yeh i bought the 5700 128mb to replace the poor integrated graphics on my 1711sci. I obught from the company that supplies acer in the UK and it cost me £180. It's a really easy install, but awkward to get the three screws in because the heatsink of graphics card actually covers the screw holes, so you cant get the buggers in. A bit fiddly but can be done. I'd say it's well worth the cost, afterall, could barely play Carmageddon 2 on the integrated and now i merrily play doom 3 on high.

DDR400 not supported ?

I have the 1712 and just upgrade the memory with OCZ PC-3200 DDR400 Enhanced Latency 1GB (2x512MB) Dual Channel Kit CAS2 (OCZ4001024ELDC-K) but CPU-Z memory timing shows 166Mhz instead of 200Mhz and FSB ratio of 5:4 instead of 1:1. I know that there is previous post about this but I don't remember if there is any resolution. Anyone have DDR400 installed and can verify that if it is running at full speed. Thanks.

Anyone know where I can pick up an AC adapter for my 1710? I've checked everywhere online and even with Acer (backordered). My Acer is dead until I can find another. I will pay top dollar for one if someone will sell me their backup.
Thanks
ive seen lots of acer adapters on ebay for sale

Quadro..

Hi, Sorry for long time response (and my english.......)

For quadro drivers.. I'll give you a link soon ( I'm not well organized, I'll find them in a lost disk somewhere.....)

D3D drivers are not optimized for Quadro, so you must use openGL.
With the 3dsmax bench, the results are incredible, I'll post the page with a comparing report soon.

What's your BIOS firmware version?
The AC adapters for the 1710 are quite a bit different than those listed on eBay. Its a 4 pin din 19V 180watt adapter.
