HELP! I'm in Bangladesh!Which is a problem in itself. No 1GB sticks of memory in the country. Definitely no Geforce GO5700. I decided to get a 128mb card for my desktop instead - at $60 for a Geforce FX 5200 its OK. Another 512MB (Twinmoss PC3200 400Mhz) added to my existing 512MB will help my 1711 performance. I don't mind not being able to play games on the 1711.
I have now gone through messages 1..10 and 64..Present. Back to my display problem. The screen flickers when I switch it on (by moving the mouse - its on all the time and turns the screen off after 5 mins). Now I see that its trying to flicker on to full brightness. It eventually gives up and I have the dimmed screen I'd expect on batteries. Having read through the board my feeling is this is not the inverter problem, but instead a problem with the backlight. But against this, I think that the backlight comes on after some time to "warm up". Either that or my eyes are getting used to the dimmer screen. (now been up for 14 hours - not very coherent).
I didn't notice anyone giving instructions on replacing the backlight (if thats the problem). Is this a big deal? ACER part or generic?
Wierd thing - when I opened the case to add the memory I found that the 'foam' piece which rests around the top of a speaker in the mid bottom of the case (against the panel) had become melted to the metal panel which you remove to get at the memory. Could just be the heat in Bangie I suppose. OK, I'm rambling. Better go.
