long time no see..
Anyway, I believe I have a solution for all of you who (like me) hates that starting-jet sound when fans are working on full RPM..
I had a problem with my GPU fan (well, it died..) and for some time I was using it without any active cooling. It was a bad idea - after several hours of playing starctaft the bottom lid got that hot I could,'t even keep my hand close to it (and screen started flickering
I was able to get small fan from some PC ati card, and now it works like a dream. BUT..
I was messing so much with cooling, so I decided to give it a try and disassembled the smaller fan from cpu cooling module. I was checking it with mobile meter, and using SpeedSwitchXP to slow it down I got about 35 degrees! (with Arctic Silver V). And BTW, there was half an inch thick layer of dust in cpu radiator, and it really helps to blow it off..
Even when I'm using full power and playing for example NFSU2, it stays REASONABLY cool, and what's even more important, it almost quiet!
I believe it would be possible to make it even more quiet, using regular fan instead that with vertical blades - but those usually don't come with round chassis..
Hope anyone will find it useful
PS: checking the last forum pages, it's sad so many of us have more and more problems with beasts..
