Acer Aspire 1710 Review - Page 77

I don't think I'd be able to send you anything because our post office, here in Bangladesh, blocks sending electronic circuits for security reasons. I can receive anything I like, but they don't like to send anything that could potentially be part of a bomb out of the country.

Hi there,

I have an Aspire 1710 and I'm trying to find the problem, I had a hard time trying to find people who knows these monsters.

This ... erconfused.gif...  notebook(?) ... come from an old friend that someone give it to him because they said it was broken, so

First, I'm sorry to bring my own issues over this thread, hope you can help me ...

Everything works fine except for the screen, it has a very very low luminescence that hardly I can see what's going on on the screen, I've tried the fn keys but they don't work as it should (only when first press low you can notice a dim, but not a brightness increase at all when you press the other) I plugged an external monitor and worked fine, everything, a bright and crispy image I have, so the video card is not the issue, I think. I've tried to tap in several places on the board and on the back of the screen as well as some other places to see if there's a change on the screen but I didn't notice anything so far.

So I googled and I couldn't find any description of this issue in the web, hence, a no fix as well, so I search for forum by the model and I found you, a live thread, thanks God.

So I don't know if you have an idea what's going on, what could be the problem, if this can be fixed, and more important, how, or if I should look into something else to have a better diagnostic.

Please help me and thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

        Vico

Either back light is going out, inverter is failing, or simply a replacement screen is in order - cheaper and simpler to replace the screen

cheers ...

Thanks qhn, for your quick answer

Does the back light has a fix? how can I check this up?

What the inverter? Is a hardware piece? How can I find it and/or have a diagnosis for this?

So you think is better to buy a screen, but these screens are different from the laptop screens, aren't they?

If yes, how to search for one?

If you have any other advice, I really appreciate it.

I'm a programmerheadscratch.gif, with some tech electronics background, so I can and I used to do some PC fixes, so I'd be so grateful if you can give me more clues.

            Thanks.

qhn is right. You are going to have to replace the screen. I did this twice. It was a very complex operation. Huge pain in the bottom. The screen will cost you about $150 - check ebay.

You are better off buying something else.

Last time I replaced the screen the machine worked for a couple of weeks and then the motherboard went. These are old beasts. Best to move on.

Checking out back light or inverter requires having some special tools and a good schematic. Your issue is far and in between a 100% as of which part is failing smile.gif Replacing the screen or LCD is best. As Chortle mentioned you can get a replacement for about $150, or like me (a cheapy) I would look for a used or broken (same model) notebook that has a working LCD and swap them out. And it is quite simple to swap the screed, just some patience winknudge.gif

cheers ...
