Acer Aspire 1710 Review - Page 41

Yes, you can run it with no battery if you want. It weights a good 2 pounds so if you if you know that you'll always have it plugged in then you can save yourself some back pain. To get the battery out you have to remove the bottom and then remove the other 5 screws that hold it in place.

Bluetooth uses/suggestions for DWS?

Good to know before I go to far.

DWStrickland, thanks for all the good info on the forum. I do have a question about your bluetooth, though. I am desperately wanting to get a keyboard/mouse wireless set for my Acer and was wondering what you've used your bluetooth for and how compatible the internal is with the stuff you've tried it with...
Any info would be great. I'm looking at Logitech's set, but it comes with a bluetooth hub and have had a hard time finding info on how to bypass that or if maybe I should just use that hub instead of going the cooler route and installing internal.

Thanks...

3DMark03 Scores

Hello all, just catching up on the board here and finally got around to reading the responses about my 3DMark scores. I ran the test again and got the same result: 1910. I have even replaced the memory with ddr 400 (before the first test). I'm running Omega 1.5672a video drivers. I saved the result file but can't get it open to copy into here. Any suggestions on what may be holding me back? I did re-install the chipset drivers after changing the video drivers.

did you try the default drivers that it came with?

I use the internal Bluetooth with the Logitech MX900 Mouse and HP DeskJet 995c printer.

In regards to the mouse, you only have to use the hub to recharge the battery. In fact, I keep it connected to another desktop that I keep on all of the time. You do not need it if you already have bluetooth installed.

crappy, Do you know of a site that I can get the latest
drivers for the 1712?
I ordered a new 1712 and it should be here Friday.
But my guess is it won't have the latest drivers on its
CD-ROM.

Thanks.....

Drivers

I looked for drivers and the only thing updated on their website (acer.com) is the Audio DJ. Everything else is what comes on the cd. I haven't gotten around to uninstalling Omega drivers yet but will try this weekend. Then reinstall the original drivers and see what scores I get.

Hello Folks,

I've been reading this thread for almost 3 hours now and I'll nbe definitely be purchasing the 1714SMI. Your support and the information you have provided is awsome...pretty knowledgeable dudes here!

Man is my wife gonna be pissed when I break the news to her.

HI ALL...new here but have been lurking for awhile. Would like to ask for a little help on the ACER. I can get a real good deal on a new 1712SMI with XP PRO. I have read here that this model has been discontinued. Was there any particular reason for this? What are the exact differences between the 1712 and 1714 and can I update the 1712 to the 1714. Thanks in advance, any info is most welcome.

Terry -- Any particular setting used with the Omega drivers which seem to produce the best results? Also, which version Omega drivers are you using?

Does Acer site offer drivers for the 1712?
I cannot find them! Are the 1710 drivers the ones
to use? They are the only ones I see offered for
17xx -- here.

3DMark

Hello $circle$,

I am runnin version 1.5672a Omega drivers. I haven't changed any settings within the video settings. Also, I do believe that you should be using the drivers for the 1710. Those are the ones that I use with my 1712. I have some time this AM so I'm going to run driver cleaner and reinstall the original video drivers and see what that does for me.

I got my own :)

I just got mine today , 1712
Heavy , bright LCD is bigger then my 17" & bit faster than my desktop

What i don't like: lower cover & too small screws , not solid enough

Anyway ,gotta go, got game to play

$Circle$ go and check out http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ for good laptop drivers. I currently use the 5.6.6.3. and have had no problems with any games.

THanks crappy, I will check it out. However, my biggest concern is the ability to run True OpenGL apps. CAD/CAM without any problems. I purchase a Sager 4750 before this 1712 .... oh what a sweet machine ... hated to return it, but it had the ATI 9700 ... problems with True OpenGL apps. I hope I didn't down-grade too much with this 1712. Not too happy about the weight though. We will see when it comes.

One question to all. Since this 1712 is discontinued, how is it going to be once this baby is off warranty in getting the needed replacement parts when things start going bad?

The Acer 1712 is in a larger group called the 1710 (look at the top left hand corner of the lappy). As you all know there is still the Acer 1714 (which the only diffrence is the 3.4GHZ cpu) so Acer might just get parts from that and if your lucky and you break your lappy at some future date (like in 2 years) thell proabebly give you much better laptop (hopfully thell still have the 1710's).
