|Hi, I'm confused. How could the newest technology in processors (I'm talking about for laptops here) are these duo core processors, but they are coming in at around 1.7, 1.5, etc ghz and the pentium 4 m in my 5 year old laptop says it is 2.0 ghz. are these duo core things slower? How can that be??
Because a core 2 duo @ 2.0GHz would absolutely obliterate your 2.0GHz P4. I mean not even close. For example, back in the Pentium M era, a 2.0GHz PM would be equivalent to a 3.4GHz P4. But these new 2.0GHz are much more powerful, meaning they are equal to a 4GHz or so P4 in terms of raw power. So no, they are not slower. Welcome to 2004, where clockspeed is not the only determining factor in performance. If you read around more you'll be surely catch up to the rest of us in 2007. Also, if you bothered to actually keep up to your old thread about processor differences in power, there would be no need to start yet another one.
