Performance boost?

I've been having problems doing my multimedia work on my dv8000z, such as rendering. Some things were taking well over 20 hrs to render and my 4 year old computer was doing the same work in half the time or less. So I was wondering if there were upgrades or anything to improve the performance of my dv8000z? It already has 2GB of memory and is the AMD Turion64 ML-40 2.2GHz.

What speed hard drive? Besides that, there's not much else that will boost performance.

Also, what are the specs of your other computer?

To andinu, I'm not sure what the hard drive speeds are on my laptop because it was purchased for me. Is there any way to go into the system settings and figure this out? To the other question, my old computer is one of the first pentium4's that is based on the old socket type I think 478. Its at 3.0GHz and the hard drive is 7200 rpm.

To abf, my laptop is set to home/desktop when plugged in and runs the cpu supposedly at full with it set to turn ONLY the screen off.

if you go into system properties (right click on my computer and select properties), then go to the hardware tab and then go to the device manager, expand the "disk drives" thing and then there should be a model number for your drive. if you google that, you'll most likely find what the drive is and its specs.
