CPU froze up after I enabled the touchpad on the laptop, did a hard shutdown and restarted, now laptop gets to Acer loading screen and freezes up at that point everytime. HDD signel is lit up, have tried holding power button with all power disconnected and that didnt work, cant get into system settings as long as the HDD is in laptop but if I take it out then I can get into it and it wont freeze up at Acer logo screen either. Fan comes on like normal, cant figure out how the HDD can be working yet cant load anything, if anyone has any ideas how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.

Smells like faulty BIOS settings.... Try to reset it! (if you already opened your laptop, it's not a big problem, just remove CMOS battery and wait few minutes, then enter BIOS and set it up again)... Or maybe faulty HDD? Have you tried it with any other one (different type, manufacturer...)? Maybe BIOS flash could help? Try the newest one from the ACER ftp site, ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_5610 ... Hope I helped... greetz!
Well thanks for the reply, I ended up sending it in to Acer and am awaiting the return. I tried everything I could think of, unplugging all power and holding down power button, cant get to BIOS if the HDD is attached, cant boot from recovery discs with HDD in, but get stuck, for obvious reasons, when booting from recovery disc and HDD isnt attached. People at Best Buy said with 85% certainty that it was the motherboard, at this point I really could care less as long as it gets fixed. Thanks again though for taking the time to reply.
