anyone play around with 800mhz fsb core duos in e1705 ?

Thread Starter
Just curious if anyone has played around with the 800mhz fsb core duo's in any of the dell laptops. I ask because would an e1705 be able to use one. I am consider buying one of the 800fsb processors just to see if there is a performance gain.

Just looking for an idea if anyone has done this already.

The socket is different, so that won't work.

If you are talking about the new odd-numbered T-series Merom that run at 800 MHZ FSB, those are just starting to appear with the new Centrino platform ( Santa Rosa ) notebooks and probably won't be available to end users until 3rd quarter. They SHOULD work provided your notebook chipset can overclock to 800 MHZ FSB. There's really no point in getting one unless your m1705 can hit that 200 MHZ buss clock with your current chip. You'll actually be better off sticking with your current CPU since the multi will be lower for the new chips. The only bonus would be the increased memory controller performance if the Santa Rosa is based on the desktop Bearlake ( P35 ) chipset.

I don't think there are any Dell 17" Santa Rosa notebooks out yet. My guess is that there will be an m1715 and m1720 that will have Santa Rosa.

The regular E and X series C2D won't fit.

As poster 2 stated, the 800MHz chips are using a different soccket, so they will not work in exixting platforms period.

Yeah the sockets are different this ensures we all get the new santa rosa platform if we want 800Mhz FSB action.

Ah, I knew somebody would post that...but you're correct, every company has to make money I guess.

Didn't mean to sound condescending or anything, but of course it isn't really an intel exclusive thing all companies rip the consumer off these days
