XPS 60 gig 7200 hard drive?

I've been following a thread here about dell's xps and whether or not the 60 gig hard drive shipping with the xps is indeed a 7200 rpm or 5400 rpm hard drive. Some have mentioned that you can only get the 7200 rpm drive if ordered from small business. Can anyone verify this? When i configure an xps from home office and click on the ? for the hard drive explanations, it has 60 gig listed twice with the laptop models that you can find the two versions in (7200 versus 5400 rpm) and for xps, the 7200 is the one listed (based on the little circle to denote speed of hard drive access). So i am assuming that the xps from home office comes configured with 60 gig 7200 rpm drive if you select the 60 gig drive. After configuring, i am given the part number of
341-0083 for the drive however when i do a search on dell for this specific part, nothing comes up. If i order an xps, will i need to speak with a live droid over there to insure i get one with a 7200 drive or is it safe to assume that they all come with the 7200 version of the 60 gig drive if you choose 60 gigs? thanks

I have seen 7200 RPM 60Gb HDD in all sections Home, Small Biz, EPP. When you select the HDD it should say clearly if its a 7200 RPM. In case of an issue, just place a call to Dell. They would sort it out in no time.

Agreed .. Everytime I've ordered a laptop in order to get the 7200rpm I've had to specifically choose the one that states 7200rpm.. If you only see it listed as 60gig but no mention of 7200rpm then most likely its not. For instance on Dells site

60GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive [subtract $99] Is NOT 7200rpm
60GB 7200 rpm Ultra ATA Hard Drive IS 7200rpm

You are correct on one thing.... Under DELL HOME they ARE NOT listing the 60 Gig 72K drive at all. It is listed under all other sections. However, all their other drives are only 4200RPM, they currently offer NO 5400RPM drives on Inspiron it is either 4200 or the 1 7200 RPM drive... And be VERY careful who you talk to on the dell sales team they are just EXTRA SPECIAL on the HD speeds of their laptop line check out this thread:

This is true and they seriously tried to convince me that ALL their HDs were 7200 RPM for their Inspiron Laptop line... So just be careful when ordering... Safest bet is to order through Small Business and select the 60gig 7200RPM model listed.

I just went to Dell Home , and configured a XPS

these are the option I got in Hard Drive section

60GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive
60GB 7200 rpm Ultra ATA Hard Drive [add $99 or $3/month]
80GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive [add $99 or $3/month] Dell Recommended
100GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive [add $199 or $6/month]

Was NOT an option for like 2 weeks under DELL HOME...
Cool, guess it is back now...
Hey SKYWALKER, you work for dell or control their website, cause I checked this just last night and that was not an option there...?

Nope... I dont work for Dell. (But I wish I had a friend there who could get me additional discounts )

I have seen that option since XPS was released. same goes for 9100.

Thats weird.... I have not seen it listed in DELL HOME in about 2 weeks... Huh, does not make sense we should all be seeing the same website... Oh well, thanks for the update

There was a discussion about this the other week - at that time, on the US site you could not get 7200 RPM through Home but on the Canadian site you could. (Why? Don't ask me, man, I'm just waiting for my XPS to show some progress on the InProduction status... it's only been there since March 5....)

Yes, I have been viewing this from the states and it was not available... Is now so all is cool... Not like this mattered to me, since I opted for the 100gig drive but was strange, I was more curious than anything... Thanks
