Dell is selling it. Just ordered one.

I got the news from the Creative Labs rep.

I don't believe we've shipped to Fry's yet, however Dell now has the card in stock.

You may also want to inform the folks on the forums you mentioned to me at Fry's about this.
Thanks for your support!

Oh man, that just made my day!

Is there Linux drivers?

Until then, no sale. Dell is supporting Ubuntu. Creative, as the biggest sound card company outside of onboard chipset providers, has no excuse for not providing (even binary) drivers.

However, I do give them props for being so quick to support express card.

I picked one up from Dell....Running it now...I will post some thoughts soon...

You guys are going to be disappointed and I think mine is going back. It seems to be nothing more than a basic internal HD Audio card in your express slot with the advanced audigy HD drivers. The only thing I think this will give you is multi-channel output.
I was wondering if that was going to be the case. They don't make it out to be a gamers card on their web site. They emphasize music and movies...

What is the noise and distortion like, for music? Does it sound better than the internal motherboard sound card?

I haven't been able to run any detailed tests, but from what I can tell the difference is negligible between the two....With the EQ adjustments on the X-Fi, you can make it sound better, but I haven't tried the internal with the Audigy HD drivers yet...

How can you get it so fast? I ordered mine when it came out and will not receive until I get home today.

I ordered it from Dell. Got it overnight for $15

I read the specs of the card and all it is is a Audigy2ZS in an expresscard package. That is what some of the high end tech reviews had said too... Granted it is nice to finally see an option for us.... finally....

I will not be getting it though. I have a D/Dock and a real X-fi. Now that is niiiiice. But not too portable...

Actually it is an X-Fi in an expresscard package. It is very sweet. Works just like an X-Fi desktop card. I love it.

is it correct that the card won't work in an inspiron xps gen2
post #14 of 24
Odd that the URI takes you to desktop accessories

Dell France doesn't have it yet

I guess they did the right thing then... Their prototype back a while was stated to be based of the ZS chip...

Good form Creative!

Since xps2 doesnt have expresscard, no it will not work. But the Audigy 2 ZS is compatible and its still a respectable card imo...

I have a couple of questions...

1.) How do you connect the optical input and output, is the adapter included?

2.) Can you purchase the "Speaker Docking Module" through Dell? This is EXTREMELY important as this is how I want to connect the card to my surround sound speakers and apparently you need this accessory that connects directly to the card...

TIA

Optical is connected directly to the card, no dongle (the line out and line in are dual purpose jacks).

I have one and I have to say for the money spent im happy. The only thing I wish it did was support ASIO for bit perfect playback. Other than that it sounds great and I personally think it's leaps and bounds better than the on board even with the Audigy MB software.

FYI: To get mutli channel playback over analog you have purchase a seperate dongle which they don't seem to actually be selling yet.

Mr. Disturbed, can You tell if the dongle has the same connector as the Audigy notebook? (i.e., could you use the audigy's dongle in the X-fi notebook?)
