Looking for Centrino laptop with a WXGA 15.4 screen.

I need the unit to run at least WXGA as certain software I use requires at least a 1280x1024 screen. I know I can find a 15" screen easilly enough, but I'd prefer the 15.4.

Any suggestions?

If I can't find one, I'll most likely go with the ibuypower Battalion-e, unless someone here can speak poorly of it.

Thanks

AFAIK, WXGA comes with a resolution of 1280x800..if you still wanted to run the programs that require the 1280x1024 and also have a widescreen maybe you should look at some laptops that have a WSXGA res (1680x1050) like the 8600

also i have the F2 which is the same barebone as the ibuypower battallion-e and i absolutely love it..only thing i would change are the small speakers

Nice looking notebook. Unfortunately, one of the things I forgot to mention was that I wanted a DX9 graphics card in the unit. And the Acer is the 9200 - DX8.

Any other sugggestions?

Trying to avoid Gateway and Dell after the headaches I've read about. Rather have a little more of the DIY feel, even if I don't.

more expensive but the hypersonic-pc.com has one, and the voodoopc.com has the m:370.

Gypsydevil,
If you're referring to the Hypersonic CX6/VooDoo M:370, both are 1280x800. Santora wanted 1280x1024. I was thinking the same thing until I checked Hypersonic's site out. Oh well...

Yeah, I've looked at Hypersonic and Voodoo, but the 15.4 just isn't high enough res. I begining to think that this notebook I want won't be available for a bit - unless I want a compaq, which I don't.

And unfortunately, I need it by the end of the month, so I'm leaning hard towards the ibuypower. That and I can pick it up, I'm local - relatively.

Yeah, that's a sticking point. No point in buying the machine if it won't run the applications I need.

Unfortunately it only ships with a 1200x800 screen.

1200 x 800 looks nice to me. It is my prefered resolution on my laptop's 15.4.
You might want to go look at a few different screens and see what seems nice and readable when you hold the laptop away from you (arms fully extended) to simulate the distance your eyes will actually be from the screen when the laptop is on your lap.

I wish it was that simple. It's about the software I need to run, not how it looks when held away from me. I need to run my software in at least 1280x1024. That's the primary purpose of this laptop. Playing DVDs and games , while fun, is secondary.

Another issue is the video card - at least DX8, but I prefer a DX9 solution.

And it looks like the only supplier of a screen in that res with the cpu/grfx card/options I'd like - is HP/Compaq. But I won't buy one of those.
