Metal Box is right that there's the possibility of other issues. XP is probably a good choice for the time being, but I'm going with Vista on the m9750. And buying a cheap XP license on the side as insurance.

i wont buy vista until the game play is as good as XP plus vista doesnt support SLI either. plus as long as the delay has been i beat they have alot of the kinks worked out with the hardware.

I have a Belkin N1 Wireless router and it works great, if your HP laptop supports 80211.n specs.

I got the D-link DIR-655 Wireless router. I have a G wireless card in my lappy and it works great. The setup was about as easy as it possibly could have been except for it autodetecting my current access point!

How do you like your dv9339? How is game play on it? Do you run BF2142?

its very nice. the look is like ...hmmm a hot girl.... very sleek.. only 1.5 inch thick. only con is that the screen is a slighly low contrast at normal viewing angles. gaming..i ran nfsh2 old need for speed very good AA at 8x and slighly choppy when you have over 5 cars intersecting at once on the screen.(im running it in native res)
second game i have is TOny hawk undergound 2 works great since the game favors a p4ht so c2d works flawlessly with it.

I was gonna get 2142 but i had to cancel my order on my 9750. but i just ran 3dmark 06 and got 2228marks. Is that fair or good?

but i know that it fairly close in the running to an dell xps with a much higher config. what does that say about dells quality of lappys?

I have a question for y'all.

I only got the 1 year warranty with my system. I know they told me to upgrade in the confimation email now to "protect your investment" but if they're like any other company, can you extend your warranty once it comes closer to running out?

Alieware will, on occasion, offer an extended warranty after the point of sale. AFAIK, whatever warranty you currently have, must still be in effect to take advantage of it, though.

There is no guarantee that they will offer it to you after you buy the system, so I would get it just to be on the safe side.

General rule-of-thumb around here seems to be to get the three-year on notebooks and just stick with the standard one-year on desktops. Seems like sound advice to me. Notebooks can be wickedly expensive to fix.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, LOL. I am going to take the "early adopter" plunge and get myself a first-gen Apple iPhone when it released. (kinda excited to get it) This usually goes against my normal M.O., but I think it might be fun to live on the wild side for a bit.

Oh well monitor, mobo whats the difference right? We still have to wait!!

And actually it makes a lil more sense since the 17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview Technology is not back ordered on the m9700 model.
and since there is no option for the mobo on the web site that they can say the mobo is back ordered, they probably just popped it on the monitor section.

And after all its a brand new MoBo for alienware correct?

Its gonna be worth the wait!

Yes, it's a completely new motherboard that's an AW exclusive built by Arima...

WOrks nicly with vista. very good support from HP. 7600 gpu is ok but im not sure if i can up grade it.

DO any of you (Hammerhead) know if it can be upgraded in the future..it is very easy to get inside.

I would of been happy with the 9750 but im very happy just to be on a lappy right now. Oh by the way the battery preformace is great.3-4 hours! Im gonna pick up a wireless router late this week. any sugestions?

thanx

I don't know much about HP computers, but I'd suspect if all they offer in that platform is the 7600go, that there are cooling limitations. There may be an upgrade in the future, but I'd expect it to be medium grade cards like the mid range 8 series 8600go instead of fully blown 8800gtx...

I wonder why HP didn't use the 7700go?

I'd expect the HP with the 7600 to perform on par with the m5550, the m9750 will have much more video power.

The bottom line for me is that I hate beta-testing for companies. But I am sure Alienware will do everything in it's power to ensure we get fully functioning systems out of the box.

Yep, AW is very thorough now with pre-release testing. Not only for the customers, but because it costs them a ton of money if there are issues after release they have to deal with. AW also takes more of a beating if everything isn't perfect...

All the dates AW published were estimates. It's frustrating, but this is pretty typical anymore with new platforms. I waited a couple months more than expected for my m9700 with the 512m vid cards, as they were having some issues with the cards in testing. They'd released the 256m cards months before, so it all depends on how things go with their testing.

C2D support for SLI is new, as is putting two fully blown gtx vid cards in SLI into a laptop, and of course Vista doesn't yet have drivers all ironed out so it's not really a surprise the platform has seen some delays.

Until AW can get finalized support hardware and software, and can fully test the mobo in the m9750, their hands are kind of tied on release. If you're impatient on shipping dates, pre-ordering a cutting edge high performance new platform from AW may not be the way to go...

I think you'd see a lot more complaining if AW simply started shipping the systems and problems came up...

My m9700 gets about 5500 in 06, the m9750 should do quite a bit better with 7950gtx's, and the dual core processor. I'd expect the XPS to equal or better my m9700 with a single 7950gtx and the dual core processor...

well hp is allowing the 8400m to be in there 14.1 to 17 inch line up. And my platform should be compatible.. ther is plenty of cooling. cpu and gpu have a partaily shared fan. with 2 inlets and two exhast fans. it cools well but not lap friendly. gets sligtly hot in the corner with both the gpu and cpu. I m sorta gald i went witht eh hp even though i would of loved the 9750. the hp is a sleek sexy machine. with some power under the hood.
and right now im on battery and taping onto networks in the car ona trip." very nice!"
hp will be releasing 3 new notebooks with the 8400m's inside and it will be the same platform cept it will have SR. but im not sure if i can upgrade unless the motherboard and cpu are compatablie witht eh new 8000's. WIll the 1.66c2d have bottlenecking since its a lower c2d or does that even happen at all. I hope i caqn get and upgrade since im gonna run demanding CAD later int he next few years at college.
