M7700 not reading the temp

Thread Starter
i got my m7700 about 23 months ago and it is just not getting heat issues. When i checked the temp in getthermal it said 1C for cpu and left and right video. The fans will not kick on at all and when i try to turn them on manually, they dont. i called the tech guys and they said it was the thermal paste. Hmm. never fixed a temp reader that way before... Any thoughts on this? BTW, When i do have it running, it onlys stays on for about 10 mins, beeps, and shuts down.

I have a very similar problem. Did you try hitting fn+f2 to keep the fans on full? I did that and it worked to keep it from shutting down. Except now all it does is lock-up and it sometimes restarts on its own, but i cant even get it to stay on. I also got my 7700 about the same time as you.

We need help!!

bump. Oh and is the old 180w PSU compatible with the newer boards that use the 220W PSU?

No, you have to use the 220 watt PS. It may work (for a little bit) but its definately not a smart gamble with an expensive laptop. I replaced my MB with the version 6 since my version 5 fried. So I have a 180 Watt PS for sale if anyone needs/wants one.

I've got the same problem, although I would date my 7700 at about 25 months. NHC rates my temp at 0, while getthermal says 1. My VGA temps and fan actions are normal though.

Heh- I should check to see if it's still under warranty. This is a sign of old age.
