Gone for a low spec XPS!

Hi,

I have done it....just got my refund through for my 9400 and have gone for a low spec XPS 1710. It came down to an £8 difference, and did I want 2Gb or 1Gb. I went for a 1Gb XPS with 2 x 512Mb 667MHz DDR2 ram. I figured, as I am only using XP and not Vista, 1Gb should be enough for now...and memory is cheap these days.

I dont have much cash and so wanted something with more 'options'...who knows, in 6 months I may find the cash for a T7600G overclockable Core 2 Duo!!

As for a 7900GS, I was happy with that before, so will be happy again! As long as its the same process for unlocking as it was in the 9400!!

I think you done the right thing, memory, Hard Drives etc are cheaper to upgrade yourself. and when I bought my M1710 it came witha Core Solo which I promptly upgraded.

Enjoy your new toy

Cheers

Yes it's the same, just make sure when you get your new system you check to be sure what rev you have on the card and don't try flashing the wrong bios.

Make sure you know what rev that 7900gs is...

Edit: Ah, late as usual

Will do...I flashed the 9400 OK with rev 1, so hope to succeed again. I couldnt get the memory above 600 though and notice some people with signatures of mem clocked to 800. I just hope the price of 7950GTX drops over next 6-12 months. Also realised I wont be able to upgrade to T7600g

Chances are, as the months go on, availability will go down, justifying people to keep those high prices on the gpu or even make em higher...gotta love capitalism

you coudl still get the T7600 processor, i'd think, which is still a perfectly capable processor. i don't know how much of an upgrade it would be from your "low spec" system though.
