Laptop wont wake from sleep. Wont do ANYTHING

I have an old CL56 and I put it to "sleep" using the keyboard shortcut (fn + "z") as I normally do on accident this time (more of a reflex of getting up) and went back to wake it up and it wont wake up. In fact, it wont do anything. I tried totally shutting it off and then turning it back on, wont do it - wont even show anything on the screen. I have found no way in which to get anything to even show. When I hit the power button the fan spins for maybe 5s then all is quiet, the power light stays on, but nothing will show... Any ideas what is going on? Thanks guys,

This is very ironic. The same computer, the same problem just happened to me... except with hibernate, not sleep.

The startup flashes for one second then goes blank... F2 doesn't work to get in the BIOS,
I called VelocityMicro (the place I bought mine) they think it might be the motherboard...

Any suggestions?

its has to be a motherboard problem. its the mobo that powers everything down in sleep/hibernate mode and something must have gone and it wont respond to commands to power back up....... as soon as mine had issues I checked out everything inside and nothing was scalding hot so shouldn't have been a meltdown, nothing smelled, nothing popped, took out the hard drive and backed everything up just fine so its not a HD, checked the LCD cable it was fine.... luckily I still have 20 days left on my 3yr warranty and its finals week so I don't need it.... but still... wtf...

Are you going to get a new PC anytime soon? If so what are you looking at?

I am in the market for a replacement with similar needs... any suggestions?

BTW, would you know where I could go to get this fixed (the motherboard), I am not under warranty anymore.

haha I guess I am now... although I'm going to see what they offer me in the way of warranty or reimbursement....

My needs have changed since I bought this (almost 3yrs ago, i bought it as mobile power for gaming and such, but i don't really game anymore) so right now I would probably just go with a run of the mill thinkpad (historically pretty durable) for under 1500... and i also want to get a dock station... but hopefully hypersonic-pc (guys i bought mine from) can offer me something.... or talk to the guys you purchased from...

As far as getting the mobo fixed... probably not possible. your best option would probably be to buy a CL56 whitebox shell and dump in all your parts again and that might just be a few hundred dollars...

Lol, sounds just like me... used to be somewhat of a gamer, but now slowing down... I was actually thinking about a thinkpad too, but I still do some graphic/web design and I am concerned about the graphics card being too weak on the thinkpads...

There is the option of the docking station and adding on a video card, but I am wondering if its worth the hassle or if I should just get an all in one bundle.

What do you use yours for now?
