Oily hands = bad for macbook

Well, since I opted for a black macbook, I guess this should be expected. My macbook is getting oily... most part, I can clean the palm rest and trackpad with no problem (using cloth + water) but the keyboard is another thing. The keys are getting oil marks and I can't seem to get them off with cloth + water..

Is there something else I should try?

I've never heard of keyboard keys getting oil marks before...it's not like they're absorbent. If they have a coating on them it's possible you're rubbing it off and even if they don't have a coating it's possible that you're literally polishing the keys as you type...though that usually takes a long time of constant typing to do.

Anyway, try using a microfibre cloth, maybe with a little rubbing alcohol, but I doubt it's doing to do anything.

I've heard good things about the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers when it comes to the BlackBook. I use them on my MacBook to get the stains off the palmrests. And I have noticed some shine on my black keys (I swapped a bunch of keys with my buddy, he has a BlackBook) particularly the space bar.

Yeah, the shine is from gradual wearing down of the grainy texture in the plastic. Nothing will remove this, as it is a texture change, not oil getting rubbed in. This happens with every laptop (unless you never type on it).

I'm not sure if the iBook and Macbook use the same plastic, but 409 actually does a great job removing stains without damaging any plastic.

Whatever you do, be careful not to splash the screen, as you wouldnt want anything eating away at that beautiful glossy finish...

It doesn't happen to every laptop. I'm a heavy typer and my PowerBook's keys still look just like they did when I got it three years ago.

The keyboard does give off a glossy look, especially my space bar since I only use my space bar with my left hand, half of the bar is shiny and the other side is dull...

I never had this problem with my dell laptops, those do get the same condition but not this early.

I dont' think I have any 409 in the house but I'll give it a try.

I heard about Mr. Clean's magic eraser but I dunno if its just me but I can't find them in stores... is there a store I should try? I looked at target so far, i haven't got a chance to get outta the house since my injury.
