Santa Rosa + 8600 GT + HD-DVD + 2 gigs of 667 + 200 Gig hd + Robson cache-to-flash technology For $1949 retail.

I think it should get some love, if it were Blu Ray and Rewriteable for the drive I would pounce on one myself.

Not a Single comment? not even about the way it looks? I mean I thought someone would at least comment about the new design, I am not sure if I like it or not honestly, but it's a pretty fresh look at least.

I think it looks good....but is the screen glossy? I sure prefer my matte Ferrari 4005 lcd over my son's glossy on his A8js asus. Specs look pretty great.

Very interested myself, glad to see there's a pricepoint on the 5920 now
Now if only there was a delivery date..

Also I hate this, but oh well.. I don't use my own Orbicam much anyway
The models sold in the US do not include the Orbicam camera shown in this image.

Yea, Acer kinda drop the ball on their new product announcement this time around and let ASUS stole some of their thunder. Their new product line (from the internal release that I have seen) looks good and if they put that kind of spec on an Aspire, you can imagine what the new Flagship Travelamte will be like. I may even go back to a Travelamte when it comes out but I needed something with a better GPU than my old 8204 for some of the newer games now (hence the ASUS A8Js). But the 8600M GT will be another jump on GPU performance and may be worth the extra 1lb or so.

I read that Acer is going to have some HD 2600 Mobility based laptops out as well, I have to say the only early comparison between HD 2600 XT mobility and the 8600 GT Mobility, the Radeon got 4000ish points in 3d mark 2k6 vs 3320ish points for the 8600 GT. So this may turn out to not be the model we want after all.

Lupin, I have to disagree with you on that one....I think BluRay will be around but go the way of the memory stick...many a Sony only standard. Disney announced they are going with HD-DVD (competitor to Sony in the Movie industry...duh)...we'll see

Yes, it's true that Sony is known for its many proprietary formats that never quite seem to catch on. MemoryStick, MiniDisc, UMD, to name a few. I just saw on the news that Blockbuster is standardizing on BluRay for the hi-def format. Most laptops however only offer HD-DVD as an option. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

http://www.mxm-upgrade.com reports that the 5920 is going to use an MXM video card. What does that mean? Upgradability!

That's very great news and I'm looking forward to seeing this laptop

HD-DVD is in big trouble. Blockbuster is offer only Blu-ray rental and only 250 of their biggest store will carry HD-DVD for sale. Disney is going to be in trouble if they don't offer both as Sony has more of the latest hit movies like Casino Royale and Spiderman 3 that is or will be blu-ray only. The installed base of Blu-ray players (including PS3) in the US is 5 times that of HD-DVD (including XBox360 HD-DVD).

For me, I just hope that the Travelmate 8200 replacement will have Blu-ray like the 8210.

The fact that the GPU is on a MXM card means nothing. There is no guarantee that any future GPU will work with the existing power/cooling fixture in the laptop.

Hell, they're all bricks....buy a new one, and be prepared to do the same in 2 years....no guarantees in life on anything LOL

Sure, no guarentee.. certainly I'd expect Acer not to support this kind of replacement. But its better option than having no option.. that is, the video card integrated into the motherboard.

Your choice but I would not base my laptop buying decision on the availability if MXM card. Experience have shown us that the card is mostly use by retailer/manufacturer that would offer multiple GPU solution for the customer but the power and cooling system have very lettle margin for growth so unless the next generation GPU actually use equal or less power and generate equl or less heat than the current ones (haven't really been the trend). it won't do you any good.

A better solution is to get a laptop with the expresscard slot and keep an eye on solething like the ASUS XG station that allows you to use an external vidoecard when you are at home.

i owned this model...but it looks like there are 2 versions of it..Asian version which i've purchased at more cheaper price than above retail sites..and an up coming U.S. version, both howerver carry the same model number...aspire 5920..

the only two differences are that Asian one has the built in cam.with double layer multi dvdrw..and US with just a hd dvd..but not much of difference to me anyways as blue ray is still dominating the market....the dolby hometheater feature defintly boost most of laptop shoppers as more and more ppl focusing on speakers wise as well as dedicated video card.

I''ll give the $1,000 best buy 1.5ghz version plenty of luv if i find out that the processor is not soldered in, so i can swap it out for a faster 2.0/2.2 one.

Now if I could only afford the money for an Asus XG... I would probably just buy an Asus laptop anyway. For the US market, its reported that Best Buy will have them http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/32811/118/ This sucks though
