Best 1440x900 Truelife Screen?

Ok, I know this has been covered before, and their probably is no direct straight answer, but I'd light to get a short discussion started on this issue, most of the threads I've seen are little vague and cover mostly WUXGA screens. (1920 x1600, or whatever the high one is).

I have no interest in WUXGA, I'm trying to get the best 1440x900 glossy (truelife) screen.

Currently I have a Samsung, which Everest ulimate edition calls the "AUO3987". It suffers from bad light leakage and awful viewing angles - to the point where you have to tilt the screen depending on what you are doing. Forget about someone next to you participating in anything you doing, the colors are all washed out.

I'm going to call Dell soon to try and get them to replace it. I don't think I should have too much trouble, I've only had this laptop for a month and I have the completecare + nextbusinessday warranty.

a 2000$ laptop shouldn't come with a cheap screen.

So once again, what is the best 17" Glossy 1440x900 Panel?

Well, you obviously have a defective monitor. Not that uncommon in the laptop world really. Just call them up and get it exchanged.

Well a new screen of the same type would probably just be slightly better in terms of light leakage and about the same in terms of viewing angle. I'm trying to get something a little better.

Mine started out with an LG which had terrible light leak, which was replaced with a Samsung wich also had bad light leak. It was replaced with another Samsung and now I have nearly zero light leak. I don't think brand matters much, they all have their good ones and bad ones.

Dell is just going to give you what they have anyway.

If it's not too much trouble, what Monitor ID does Everest give you for your current screen? Also, what is your viewing angle like? Mine is awful.

Well, I don't have a WUXGA, mine is only a WXGA, but I still have a really good viewing angle. Yours should be even better than mine. My monitor ID would probably be different than yours because it's a WXGA. Sorry I can't be of more help. Edit: Wait, yours is a glossy screen, but isn't WUXGA? I thought all glossy screens on these laptops were WUXGA?

They just started making glossy WXGA a month or a few months ago I think

Interesting. I'd still like to know your monitor ID, Disillusion.

Sure thing. My Monitor ID is SEC5857.

thats the same ID mine is, but mine has bleed on the bottom 1/3'rd of the screen granted it isnt bad bleed but its there. Viewing angles are ok I guess for a laptop screen lol Im not sure compared to other screens.
Anyways out of the samsungs I think the SEC5857 is the best. I still wish I could get one with absolutely no bleed though =/

i compared my non-glossy WXGA with a classmate's glossy WXGA and i honestly think mine looks better. it seems brighter.

I find my horizontal viewing angle particularly bad (glossy WXGA+). I have to adjust the screen tilt quite often when I'm working.

The glossy 1440x900 screens might not be polarized or whatever like the WUXGAs are. So the gloss over them might be deteriorating the view angle quality. I know WUXGA's have excellent viewing angles though.

The LG I got on M90 trully is the worst screen I've seen. I had WUXGA Samsungs, and Sharps (Best in my experience). This damn LG screen is so damn fuzzy compared to Sharp screen I had!.

I haven't called Dell yet to get it replaced. Just bumping this thread to see if anyone else has any useful info to add before I do...

I can't remember how to tell which screen I have on my M1710 but it's VERY nice. I was always happy with the LG on my 9300, but the screen is definitely sharper and brighter on the XPS. I'm sure it has something to do with the superior vid card too.

You should be able to tell with Everest I think. Can you post it?

Not sure what Everest is. I actually went back to Dell and punched in my Service code and up came my spec. I've got a Samsung. I remember when everyone with LG was dumping theirs for Samsung. Then the opposite occurred.

I'm happy with both.

EDIT:

I just checked the original spec on the 9300 and it said Samsung too. Somewhere along the way I seem to recall confirming that it was LG. Whatever!

Google for Everest Home edition. I'd really like to know what you monitor model is.
