I just received a laptop from my grandfather, its a Toshiba Satellite 1805 and it has a pIII (1.1ghz and a FSB 100mhz) Added ram 512mb plus 20GB hard drive. But everytime I run any program or task the CPU usage goes crazy from 2% to 100%, even if Im just scrolling down a webpage. It makes things move choppy and just plan poor. I have a 350mhz P2 desktop that runs smoother. Can anyone please try to help me out here. And I already took apart and cleaned the heat sink + fan.

What OS are you running??? Have you gone into the Task Manager to see what applications are running?? If so, which ones are using the highest percentage of memory. Have you looked at what is running at startup???
Have you done a complete clean ie independant online virus scan, have you run a couple of Spyware applications????. These situations will all cause slowdowns
