This has been hashed out on other posts, but from what I have read, no one is really sure the the m9750 is even going to get Santa Rosa. I personally wouldn't mind the C2D. Witht he 8XXX cards, this machine will still rock, whether it has SR or not... If the 8XXX cards are as power effecient as we have been discussing, then that is all the better. I am only holding out for DX10 support - anything besides dx10 support is a bonus...

if you wait for the santa rosa and the dx10 cards there is going to be something else around the corner that will be better and then you will have to wait even longer. Its a never ending process.

when it will be until next year till the 45nm cores come out, so its better to wait for santa rosa and DX10

I'm holding onto my 9700 for another thats when the DX10 cards should be out but like littlefrankus said, its a never ending process

im not going to wait another year for a computer when the time the santa rosa and the dx 10 comes out there will be something else everyone will have to have to up to date. If you go with that philosophy you will be waiting forever.

The best thing is to wait till early next year as there isnt anything coming out till the year after that, but who wants to do that?

I emailed Alienware to ask them about the possibility of upgrading the m9750's video cards and this is the response I got:

"The Area 51m 9750 sports user upgradeable/replaceable video cards which are compatible with Nvidia's MXM specifications. However, at this time, I am unable to tell you if you will be able to upgrade the video card on this system (although there is a high probability that you will) because Nvidia is still working on their Geforce 8800 mobile video card.
As of this time, Nvidia has not released any specifications or requirements in regards to as to whether these new cards will work on existing platforms or if a new platform will need to be developed. Until then, we will need to wait until Nvidia releases this card and its specifications to see the possibility of an upgrade being offered."

I didn't even bother asking about Santa Rosa or anything else as I assume you will need a whole new mobo to upgrade the CPU from C2D to Santa Rosa, but I was wondering about the GPUs, and it looks like most 9750 owners will be able to upgrade to the mobile 8800s when nVidia realeases them. Maybe.

that's at leat a pretty strait-forward answer... Most companies would probably try to feed you a lot of bull, so you would go ahead and buy their product...

You've got to appreciate honest ignorance

Would that mean the M9700 could take DX10 cards if the m9750 could?

DX10 cards require a certain hardware configuration. I'm pretty sure from what I have read that the m9700 mobo will not accomodate DX10 at all. It might be nice if however that 7950 could be plugged into a m9700... I might actually keep might if that were possible...

Yeah, i guess you're right. I wouldn't mind having 7950GTX's in my m9700 either, but it's all about DX10 now. Gosh don't you hate the computer industry.

uh, yeah but I try not to worry about being 'behind the newest thing'. you can never catch up, however, when it gets to the point that games start to lag and have problems, then I start worrying. However, I figure I should get a few more years (at least two) out of my m9700...
