2400-s201 RAM

Hello, I have a Toshiba 2400-s201 with 256mb of ram and I would like to upgrade to the maximum of the laptop. I am confused on what the maximum is. Is it 256mb per slot or 512mb per slot? Also, is PC2100 the highest ram that it can handle?

For any future questions regarding memory. One of the best sites out there is Crucial.com. Just go to their site, put in your computer info that is requested and they will let you know what the max amount is and what speed.

You until will carry a max of 256 per slot. If you use any higher speed modules (some will work) but they will only operate at the speed of the slowest sticks in your machine. ie (2100)

I installed the ram. How can I confirm that it's running at 333mhz? I checked the bios but the bios is very limited and doesn't show anything.

What operating system are you using?????????

Google a little program called CPU-z, download it and run it. On one of the tabs it will give you all the info you could want about the ram, what it's capable of and what it's running at.

Its running win xp pro. Here is a cpu-z screenshot Why isn't it running at full speed, 333mhz?

Found this:

DDR (Double Data Rate SDRAM)
DDR basically doubles the rate of data transfer of standard SDRAM by transferring data on the up and down tick of a clock cycle. DDR memory operating at 333MHz actually operates at 166MHz * 2 (aka PC333 / PC2700) or 133MHz*2 (PC266 / PC2100). DDR is a 2.5 volt technology that uses 184 pins in its DIMMs. It is incompatible with SDRAM physically, but uses a similar parallel bus, making it easier to implement than RDRAM, which is a different technology.

Remember, your machine was designed for PC2100. As mentioned some different sized memory sticks may work (PC2700) but will always revert back to what your machine was designed for(PC2100)

Thanks. Is there anything I can do to try to make it run faster than the 97mhz that it is running currently?

I doubt it
