XPS2 Locks up on using keyboard to change volume

I have the XPS2, 17 inch screen.

If I use the little silver buttons on the front side of the computer to change the volume, the computer locks up; the same thing happens if i use the FN + Page Up/Down keyboard keys to change the volume.

Is this a known issue, or is this the usual "reinstall windows and call me in the morning thing"?

Well it is not a common occurance.

did this just start happening recently, or has this been an ongoing issue?

On going. I have no idea if it is hardware or software. The computer doesn't really lock up; it still lets me use ctrl-alt-delete to get that option box that comes up; if I try to open the task manager, it will open, but not let me close anything

What I have to do is select "log off" and let it close the offending program. I tried reinstalling quickset.
