I am wondering if any member has experience with the travelmate 2480 that we are looking at presently.
Specs:
1.73 ghz Intel Celeron M Processor 430( 1MB L2 cache,533mhz fsb)

512 MB DDR2 SDRAM
80 GB HD
14.1 inch WXGA (1280 x 800) LCD
DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
802.11b/g WLAN
10/100 LAN
v.92 modem
5 in 1 Card Reader
Intel GMA 950 graphics
Windows Vista Home Basic, English

My wife is looking at this model just to do browsing and emails. We have a new copy of Windows xp pro and Staples will install it and d/l the drivers for it.
She doesn't want the Vista that exists with the unit.
The price is $550 and $250 for an extended 3 year warranty.

I can't seem to find much on this unit. I have googled this model and as well the AS 3680 notebook which is $100 more

I really would appreciate comments, as there is only one left.
We have never had an Acer before, always toshiba notebooks and so we are new to this brand and whether or not this model is decent.
Thankyou for your time.

BTW, this model is in North West British Columbia and sold by Staples, the other Model AS 3680:
Specs.

1.6 ghz Intel Celeron M Proxessor 520
512 mb, DDR2, SDRAM,
80gig SATA HD
14.1 inch SXGA (180 x 800) lcd
Super multi DVD+/-RW Drive
5 in 1 Memory Card Reader
Intel GMA950 Graphics (Windows Vista Ready)
M$ Windows Home Baxic
Weight 5.3 lbs
1 year limited warranty

$250 for extended 3 year warranty

I thought that I should add the specs for the second model. There are not many Acers around here. Mostly HP, Toshiba and Sony and I had been told to look at the Acer, however I don't know about their quality of costruction, parts and it is the store that I have been dealing with for years that I would be buying from.

I really hope to get comments, thankyou.
As mentioned earlier I have a news sealed disk of Windows xpsp2 home that i will have installed by Staples so that the correct drivers can be d/l.
Thankyou.

I don't have first-hand experience with that model, but the Acer's I have work great. Good specs for the price, that model should easily fit for internet surfing and emails

Good choice about switching to XP as well (esp since 512 MB, Vista will perform terribly), remember all the drivers are available from the Acer website.

Thx very much for the reply, all I got from the Staples rep is that Acer is made cheap and that they now only carry 2 models and the rest are HP and Toshiba. He said that the HDD is bad and that the memory installed is Cheap and that they decided that they were tired of getting problematic Acers returned for repairs and so up here in the Pacific Northwest of Canada they were cutting down the stock???
On the other hand you go into Future Shop/Best Buy and there are a lot of Acers there???!!

I had to scratch my head about this one!!!
