Problems with my Acer. Worth sending back?

Hey all,

I'm in the UK and I've had my good old Aspire 2023 for about 2 and a half years now. Over that time its gained a couple of knocks and what not causing a bunch of problems. None of these problems have cause the laptop to full stop working (other the HDD problem below) but have been annoying me slightly. Now, is the 1st time in about a year and a half that i don't need to use it for a couple of weeks so I'm looking to get it repaired. (I brought the Acer Advatange 3yr Acc Dam warranty). The problems with it are:
  • BIG crack in the screen. It looks fine when there is a light background but when the background is dark you can see it. Slightly annoying when watching a film
  • The laptop won't close! I'm not sure why but the latch won't lock unless forced into the holes
  • The screen shakes and clicks when it moves. I can't totally place the screen in once place it keeps 'flopping' (thats the best way to describe it)
  • The laptop overheats and I can hear the fan alot more then I used to
  • The mouse occasionally gives in and I'm forced to use an optical mouse
  • Most seriously, from what I can tell, the HDD falls out of its IDE causing the HDD to timeout and blue screen and occasional causes Windows to corrupt itself and thus forces me to wipe.
  • The RAM is also causing a blue screen so needs to be replaced I suspect but I can't prove it
Quite a list eh? I know I should have called in as and when but like I said I haven't been able to part with my laptop for work until now.

My question is this, how should I go about sending it back? Just send it listing the above problems? and how long is the turnaround in the UK? and the quality of it? I've never done anything like this before so I'm just looking for some advice.

Regards,

Jonaid

Yeah I would send it in.......definately, IDK about how long it will take though.
Either e-mail, call or chat with Acer.....prob best to call and they will start a case # for you more than likely, they may send you a shipping label, IDK.....just call and tell them whats up.

Wow its quite a list. Screen replacement certainly, possibly a motherboard replacement, RAM, HDD... they may as well give you a completely new system

From what I've seen in other posts, it'll be about 3-8 weeks to get the unit back. The biggest concern would be whether you can live without your laptop for that long of a period and whehter they actually fix everything in the first go. It would suck if you got the laptop back with a new screen and it kept blue screening or still unable to close. Then you would have to send it off again. Of course, if it does not cost you anything to ship it to them, i.e. they pay for two way shipping, then send it in. Worse comes to worse you can donate to a charity in a fixed condition and maybe get a tax credit; I don't know if that applies to you in the UK. Any way, if it will cost you everytime you have to ship it back to them to get one or more things fixed, it is really debatable. A 2 year old laptop is fairly out-dated. Good luck in your decision.
