It's the same thing that happens when you use a widescreen movie on a regular aspect screen or TV, you get the black bars on the top and bottom becasue the video is a different shape than the screen. In your case you're fitting an narrower image onto a wider screen, so in order to preserve the quality of the image, it adds on the black bars on the sides. Try watching a DVD or video that is in widescreen format. I'll bet you get very small bars on the top and bottom.
True. The thing is, the first time I watched a NON letterbox video, the ratio adjusted automatically to fit the image to the whole screen. Since then, my wife has been playing with my computer and I'm not sure what she's done. It's not just on the media players but on the PC itsef. How do I change the options or ratio settings???
