there is a link to a data sheet which details a Merom 2.2Ghz.... a comment states something about an 8600GT, but I have yet to confirm this with any DELL docs or with any other site info.

THe 1520/1521 and the 1720/1721 dont seem to be too big of a deal... but I am curious about the new model... VOSTRO...

May need to ditch off my wifes E1705 here pretty quick... just to get my hands on 1 of those...

Vostro 17in. not hitting until July tho.

maybe time to dump the M1710 and and get the New XPS when it gets released
post #7 of 93
Damn things going to cost though since it being new model, and demand will be high and all. Choice I had was go with M90 spending 1400 and change, or wait few more weeks/months and go with new XPS.
it will be december before we get good shipping dates and pricing for somethign like the Vostros but the 1720 will likely replace the 1705 right away.
Wait, which one's replacing 1705? 1720? or 1721? I thought one of them was an XPS replacement.
Wow very nice. My laptop feels old already but it still kicks ass in games.
1720 comes with Intel C2D and 1721 AMD. I would assume the Vostro to be the special edition, maybe XPS replacement.

Spec wise, all the Santa Rosa laptops are pretty much the same. It boils down to how refined Dell with make theirs in light of their poor financial performance vis a vi HP. The buttons on the front indicated that there are no touch sensitive adjustment ala HP. I hope they've graduated the 3+ year old design to one with:

- webcam
- dual HD Raid
- SDHC slot
- HDMI or better yet
- Dual link DVI
- keyboard with numpad (please get off the one keyboard fits all model design).
- built in flash memory (Robson)
- non fading palm rest

Seeing that we're going to be stuck with this 'new' design for who knows how many years, let's hope is a giant leap forward.

Like most of the ideas but the number pad.
If they change the design by a large margin, I would wait a bit until the technology matures a bit.

I like the new design. Kind of m1210 inspired, but simple and stylish for just about any user.
I agree with Ryotaro, I like the looks....but I wouldn't buy one being that the 8600 is not exactly what I would call top line.

Where did you see the GPU info on new 17 series?
I didn't but I do expect that they won't have an 8.8 series out yet because it needs a die shrink.
You really think Dell's going to come out with weaker GPU after all the new designs? I don't know about that.
The inspiron 9200 ushered in the 9300 and 9400 designs so hoefully we wont wait too long before we enjoy the new format which people have been dying for dell to change.
Its going to include 8600M GT, which is not so great for a 17" notebook. 8800Ms are going to be out in summer.
i bet they will offer an ati low end verions, a 79 "mid end"version and a 86 "buy whats new even if its worst" version, before the 88s come out, thats their only way out i think besides 88s upgrade coupons .
