Vista or XP? Question about current gaming performance - Page 2

post #21 of 24
I get ~9k 3dmark05 with tweakrus 101.70 in vista 32bit w/ high performance driver settings. Also 4xAA works for me.

My specs are: T7400 (Core 2 Duo 2.16ghz), 7900GS 594-631/540@1.14v (shader-geometry core), 2gigs 667mhz ddr2 at 5-4-4-10;

But I will say if I had XP 32bit I would install that in a heartbeat. I have XP x64 and am dual booting and so far I've tried a handful of x64 drivers and they don't even match my vista performance. Maybe I just haven't tried the right one or I maybe some of the service packs that I haven't installed yet improve performance.

Hi,
was wondering if there's any difference in performance between 64bit or 32bit vista...?
Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks!

It's much harder to find good drivers for either x64 XP or Vista, so imho stick to x86 (32bit)

Those who don't have issues finding 64bit drivers seem to be reporting a better experience with 64 especially with a lot of RAM (4 Gigs+).

For me, only one piece of hardware had a good set of 64bit drivers, all the rest did not. I'm stuck with 32 for that very reason. Until hardware manufacturers get fully onboard and equally support 32 and 64, I'm afraid the adoption rate of 64bit Vista will always lag behind 32.

But it seems that Vista 64 is a lot less painful to adopt than XP x64 and will continue to get easier with time. By the time Vista gets replaced, I'd say there will be a good chance that Windows will be 64bit only.
