Hey, I just got my dell e1505 and wanted to share what I think.
Here are the specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5600 (2MB/1.83GHz/667MHz)
15.4 Inch UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WXGA+ w/ 1440x900 res.
1GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory
120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
8X DVD+/-RW Drive
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps)
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module (2.0+EDR)
So, that is what I got, now here is the incredible part: I got that for $920 with tax. Yah, I used the save $500 off a purchase of 1400 or more coupon. Needless to say it was a steal. The shipper (DHL) thankfully didn't just drop it off on my front porch, they waited for us to sign for it. So, that was good. It was estimated to arrive at June 21 according to dell, and it arrived today (the seventh) so that is good. Anyway, enough of this, let me tell you about the lappy.
Screen:
Amazing, this thing is truly the best laptop screen I have seen. Pay the extra 50 bucks for the WXGA+ the real estate is a must have in vista. Also, the screen doesn't ripple when you press hard against the back of it, like on the hp laptops.
Durability:
GREAT! I am truly impressed with this machine. It seems to be built quite solid. I can't really find any weak points that can be hit in normal use.
Power:
Get the nine cell battery. I am glad I did. I have already had it of the charger for 2 hours and it said that the battery still had over 60 percent left. I think it is going to be a four hour battery, which is outstanding. Also, the battery doesn't protrude out the of machine. It fits in the same slot.
Power (computing wise):
Fast. Fast. Fast. I love this things start times. Even with vista it only takes about a minute and a half to boot. It ran nfs most wanted at highest res (only 1024x768????) and highest graphics without hickup. I have yet to test it with more current games like C&C3 and the like, I will try to check up later and tell you how it goes in them.
Vista:
Many people hate vista. I like it, much better than XP. I would recomend it. It isn't the best ever, but it is certainly a nice OS. BtW: I will soon be dual booting UBUNTU and Vista.
Keyboard:
Nice, I love the touch. Also, the design hasn't changed: which is good. My old Latitude CPID has the same exact setup on it's keyboard. Awesome.
Trackpad:
Good, it is a little course to the touch, but just will take some getting used to.
Wireless:
Awesome, I am running at 4 bars where I normally would be running with two on other pcs. I love the intel wireless.
Sound:
Okay, I haven't used much music stuff.
Heat:
Not too bad. I have it on my lap right now and it has been on for about 5 hours straight. It is hot, but it won't burn u. Nothing out of the norm.
Overall:
A good buy, I can't believe I only paid nine hundred bucks for this thing. I look forward to using it more when I have more time. If you are wavering between this and the hps get this! It is a much better built computer. I love this thing.
