Is this difficult for a beginner?

Thread Starter
My computer skills are limited compared to all of you.

As stated in my post below, I keep getting booted out of the internet when this little window like thing appears. I've run all the virus scans that were suggested, to no avail.

It was also suggested to backup, and re-install the OS. Could someone give me the specifics on this, and do you think I'll be able to do it or should I call someone for help.

I can't get anything done online, every 30 minutes or so that thing appears when I'm in the middle of something for work. It's very frustrating.

I'd appreciate details if you think I can do this and will it solve the problem?

Thanks
Lynn

You should also try a spyware removal tool like Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware.

Many antivirus tools just focus on viruses and not adware. Various adware applications pass themselves as Windows critical applications (and mess up your internet connection if you remove them!!) so Windows won't let the utility remove them.

To make a spyware scan and removal more effective make sure to install the spyware utility and update it first and then start up Windows in safe mode and start the scan.

You may also want to turn off Windows System Restore as well before running the scan. While a great utility in Windows it can also restore files like viruses and adware utilities if you remove them. This is because some of these files pass themselves as important Windows files and "fool" Windows into thinking that you have removed an important file it needs so it will automatically restore it when you restart the system.

It is always a safe practice to back up any important information though. If all else fails simply format the hard drive and reinstall the Operating System. It is always a safe bet having an antivirus and adware remover running on your system.

Hope this helps.

Spybot S&D is one of my favorites, once you get your problem squared away be careful of what you click on and what sites you go to, 90% these problems occur because of operator error, not because some random "1ntr4n3t h4x0r" wants to screw with you.
