I-tunes question

Hey all, just wonderingss... : I am used to the front buttons on my 8890 to switch between songs and pause and stop/volume etc.... anyhoo this only seems to have worked in Media Player. I no longer am able to do this with I-tunes. I just started using i-tunes today, right now, and am curious thats all!

Anyone know how to program those buttons to work with I-tunes?

Anyone know how to program the remote that comes with the 8890 to do the same, maybe even control more than just the TV studio and DVD player??

THanks

im new at i-tunes. Where did i suddenly get all this music? Something called "dickheads music" appered under my playlists or "source". i swear i haven't downloaded anything. most of the songs are country. Where did all this come from? At the bottom of i-tunes it says "367 songs, 1 day, 1.45 Gb" . I am really confused. Is it just playing it off the internet? I have to assume so as my "two computers" are both lit up.

I don't use iTunes, so I couldn't tell ya... I tried it (when the windowz version came out) but it wanted too much from me, so I nuked it and went back to simple winamp.

PS: have you tried using logitech's iTouch keyboard software for your machine? I use it and it works with winamp...

iTunes has music sharing capabilities over the network. Is "dickhead" another one of your PC's with MP3's on it? Or perhaps you're on cablemodem without any type of firewalling going on and it's someone else on your node?

Not too sure as I haven't played around with the sharing capabilities, but it sounds like thats what you've found.

fresh install of windows a few days ago, i have just installed itunes. i have only put ten mp3s on my computer (myself). They were from a data CD. THere is not another PC with mp3's on it. i do NOT have a firewall, i will download one soon.

Has anyone heard of PC Cillin???

I hope someone else isn't lookin at my computer ... I have a feeling all those country songs are some than itunes lets you listen to and then they change the next day or something. i have no idea. maybe when i disconnect they will go away. well...,... they had better!!

BTW i am on wireless.

You really need virus protection and a firewall if you are going to use any type of swapping network. You have opened you PC up and someone has added some files for you on your PC. You are lucky if that is all they have done. I would download a free Virus protection and run an entire scan of your system. It is more likely just some files were added or put a virus/trojan on your PC. You would have to open specially crafted website or file before someone could read your files. If you have broadband, there are plenty of bots looking for open computers. Some people have even got the Blaster Worm by reinstalling their OS and were connected to the Internet when doing so before they installed their firewall and virus protection.

i use itunes over our school network, and i am pretty secure knowing that i am safe without a firewall, but maybe its cuz i am a computer genius and MSCE lol so i know how to keep unwanted folks out

Right click one of those songs and select "Get Info" Where does it say this song is located?

Are these songs only under the "dickhead's music" source? do they show up in "Library"? Is this source under the "Shared Music" heading?

I concur with Potato... get a Firewall, Anti-Virus, and AD-KILLER (adaware, spybot, etc) if you are going to use highspeed connections to the net.

Thanks allz!! I figured it out: some setting was set to "search for others LAN itunes users" or something similar. So im sure someone else in the library was on the same wireless network as i was on. So i could listen to his music. (thats kinda cool!) however, my music was not selected as "shared".

yeah, i plan on installing a firewall here soon. i normally use zone alarm, just havne't installed it yet. does anyone think i should try PC Cillin? my friend said it works well and i think its freeware. Thanks again!

Peace::>>>

I always share my tunes especially at work. It encourages others to share their tunes. At work alone I have access to about 20 other user's libraries and being able to listen to a wide variety of music while at work is a nice luxury

The buttons on the front of my 8890 do work with I-tunes, albiet in a useless way. It is entirely necessary to have I-tunes open and the active window, in order to be able to skip songs and play/stop. On the contrary, the only time when i need to be able to change songs is when i am doing other things in windows. I hate the fact that i am stuck with having I-tunes open to use the front buttons, because if I-tunes were open, then i would just click on the >>| button, eh?

eh.

I know this is a very old thread, but I thought I'd post an answer that I found.

I just upgraded the Sager-issued 80 GB IDE hard drive in my Sager 5720 to a 320 GB SATA so that I could use my notebook as my primary PC. Part of this involves iTunes with my 40 GB of music (mostly soundtracks). I love keyboard shortcuts, and I use SizzlingKeys for iTunes on my Mac to control iTunes with keyboard shortcuts. On Windows, I found iTunesControl to work great.

And guess what? I can use iTunesControl with the Sager media buttons! Just install iTC, go into it's settings, and set the hotkeys for Play/Pause, Next Track, Previous Track, and Stop using the media buttons. It works great! Unfortunately, the four buttons to the left of the clock can't be programmed.
