Acer TravelMate 8104 Screw Locations

I have disassembled my Acer Travelmate 8104 last October. Now, I need to put it back together. The problem is that it has two screw types with the same diameter but different lengths. There is a warning in the service manual saying that not placing a screw length in the proper location can damage the motherboard.

Have any of you disassembled an Acer TravelMate 8100 or Ferrari 4000 and taken notes on the screw locations? Could you please provide them to me.

Thank you so much.

Hi, Sorry I can't help you with your question....but I need to disassemble my acer travelmate 8104 as well - doing wierd stuff on cold boot, no sreen display unless I disconnect all power supplies and try about to times to restart.....I am assuming it is the motherboard. anyway I was hoping you could tell me where to locate a service manual for this machine and tell me a bit about your experience opening it up. Thanks

Yes, I can. Private message me your email address. I'll send you the service manuals for TravelMate 8100 and Ferrari 4000. They are pretty much identical. But, the Ferrari manual has better pictures. My advice to you is that you record the screw length/diameter and its location. Also, take pictures. The pictures in the manuals are low resolution. I have assembled mine. It works. It's scary at first, but it's quite easy to disassemble/assemble. However, after I done, I got extra short screws and missing long screws. I'm not sure why that happened because it seemed that long screws won't fit in short screw holes and vice versa. Please take notes on the screw locations and share them with me. If I have to disassemble it again, I'll use your notes to put the proper screws in place. Note to ACER: Put screw information in service manuals.

AFAIK there are 2 short screws to affix keyboard and one for buttons PCB. Probably a couple of short screws used to fix motherboard near the front of laptop. Don't remember if there is a short screw going from HD compartment and one near the DVD drive. I disassembled/assembled TM803, TM8003, TM8104, TM8204 so I don't remember which is which

In fact, service manual should have precise specs on which screws go where (size, length, thread parameters). There should be a table at the end listing all the screw types used in assembly too.

This service manual clearly states that the service tech should take notes on the screw locations. Actually, I'm going to upload them to a file hosting service instead of waiting for him to email me.

For TM8100 see pages 85 and 86. Page 86 has a table that lists screw types (diameter, length, thread) associated with circled items in a picture on page 85. Not every screw gets individual number, similar screws share the same number (for example, screws along the perimeter of the case (30).
