Ok, am going to college and i need something that would portable to carry around on campus, but heres my prob i want good amount of hard drive space for music, pics , and movies. Also i want it to be able to play at least C&C3 and starcraft 2(when it comes out). The reason i have the dv9500t up there is that its only one i think have enough hard drive space. Plus i dont k now to much about laptops, so please help me out.

Something tells me SC2 isnt going to run well on a 8600GS why not consider companies that offer stronger CPUs currently? Both notebooks can run C&C3 with low to medium settings but you will need a better videocard if you expect to enjoy the game on nice settings and who knows with starcraft you might need something much better considering its still a long ways to go before its out. The 17inch notebooks are not that portable and you'll start to get tired of carrying it around with you so you might want to focus on getting a different notebook such as the Apple MBP 15.4 inch model if you have money to blow or the Asus G1.

do u recommend any other laptops?

The new Asus C90 might fit pretty well with what you want. Though, if you really need alot of storage space for music/movies/etc I'd recommend just getting a good external drive. If you go with a laptop that's going to have space for 2 drives it's going to be heavy and you're not going to want to carry it around campus. Even though the 8600 isn't quite as fast as the 7900 in a E1705/M1710 it's DX10 which will be helpful when the new games start coming out. You have to compromise a little if you want a laptop that's not going to break your back while you're hauling it around campus. If you really want a 17" I'd go with the E1705, as the 7900GS is a great card. My brother has one and it's a great laptop. And it doesn't bother him that it's heavy, he takes it everywhere.

u should buy number 1

I'm leaning towards the first HP because of the higher processor speed, higher rpm on the hard drives (5400 rpm) and the 8 cell battery.

Also, I'm a whore for graphics...and the 511MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS turns me on...:P
