Gateway MX6453 CPU Upgrade Question - Page 2

Not that I am aware of. If you are not bothering with any OC-ing, I would just leave it. You might want to download BelArc Adviser and see if you can pick up some different information.

BelArc output

2.20 gigahertz AMD Pentium 4
1024 kilobyte primary memory cache
64-bit ready
Multi-core (2 total)
Not hyper-threaded

so i guess ht is not working?

Are you on XP? Want to try to install the AMD Processor Driver?

I am using Windows 7. I could not load the driver. Error says "driver is not for this operating system"

Have you tried un-installing the processor from within Device Manager and see what W7 can do by re-installing it?

Hey guys, been reading this thread for a while, wanted to get your input on my situation. I ordered an upgrade TL-64 to upgrade my TL-52 CPU in my MX6453 notebook. After I installed the new CPU the laptop wouldnt post, no display even, just power on for a sec cycle then shut down. I'm running the older bios version; wondering if a bios update is needed to get the new CPU running.

Also, is there a special menu for a MX6453? Something with more options and access.

Thanks for the help guys.

You can try with an up to date BIOS version and see. Gateway is notorious for blocking out CPU upgrade ability.

No luck with the bios upgrade. Tried it on a friends laptop; same model, cpu started to post then froze. I'm sending it back RMA, going for cpu # 2.

[Edit]

The cpu was acting like it wasn't locked in fully. But after 5 test installs I'm declaring the cpu defective.

For an original TL-52 90nm, what would I need to check to verify if a 65nm cpu would be supported?

In the real world? Mostly trial and error using theories or someone else success as reference. cheers ...

Update: The TL-64 died. I believe it was running hot and after these months it finally did it in. The pc would not boot sometimes and when it did it would run for a minute or two and then wierd things would start happening. Strange lines across the screen. Typing translated into alien language (random characters). I reinstalled the original CPU TL-52 and it has been working fine now for a month since I declared the TL-64 fried.

Side note: Windows 7 64bit runs like a champ on this computer with 2Gigs of Ram. I am dual booting Ubuntu 9.1 also.
