My replacement Vid Card (7900gs) jsut got back orderred? Is this a sign of the supply stash running thin?

Is this a sign that the 79oogs will shortly have a replacement model?

hmmmmmm

Or I am jsut unlucky in my timing?

I highly doubt that there's going to be a better card released than the 7900GS for your laptop. Odds are Dell is just waiting on orders for more 7900GS's. They use seperate supply lines for new system parts and replacement parts.

I think that supplies must have run low lately because the 7900GS has not been available in the UK as an option on the 9400 on the Dell website for around a month now. Perhaps Dell have reduced their order quotas lately in preparation for the replacement of the Inspiron 9400?

my replacemnt got today after 1 month of delays, i think they are running out of GS's.

It could also mean that nVidia has stopped producing the GPUs. That happened with desktop 6800's and 7800's.

Who knows? There was a period where you couldnt get a 6800go ultra but now their plentiful at dell from what I've seen.

Yeah, I got another 6800U replacement the other month, no supply problems there...

It'll be a sad day when the GS retires

Hope you get your replacement soon

Dell still has 6800u's? Wow. I thought they ran out of those well before the 7800gtx's became difficult to get.

Anyway, I hope dell isn't phasing out the 7900gs. Its such a versatile card,
please don't replace it with a 8600 dell!

Yea is agree, the 7900 can whomp the 8600.

Personally im happy w/ DX9 because XP/DX9 doesnt really have to be sorted out like Vista/DX10.

Yes Vista will only get better as time goes on but for the time being Im sticking w/ XP/DX9
post #11 of 22
I seriously hope not since a 8600 is nothing compared to a 7900GS
post #12 of 22
The 8600 for the newer systems won't even fit your systems. So it's safe to assume that one way or another Dell will get you a 7900GS. They may be running short of ones they can fix and are having to order new ones.
Is this a confirmed fact that the 8600 will replace the 7900GS or is this just a rumor???
the 7900GS has been backordered till Aug 2007 when i called in.
Why do you think they didnt offer the 7900GT???

Not enough of a performance jump over the GS to compensate 4 price?

Weel, my card arrived yesterday. I installed it wihtout delay and I am back in business.....

it wasnt a long wait, and it really didn't affect me since I have 2 - 9400's, My wifes is a x1400 based system, so I just swapped the HARD DRIVES until my new card got in.

ALl good now.

If DELL is now telling folks AUG 2007 for backorders... this is a bit troubling. I do indeed want a * series card... but not if the 7900GS will stomp the piss ot of it.

Glad I rec'd my 7900.... REV 00 BTW. WOOHOO!

Just letting you guys know there's cheap 2500m cards on Ebay selling for 150. Sellers rep looks pretty good. Just thought it may be a useful info if you are thinking about upgrading.
And the 7800's are still $300+, mostly $400....I swear that just pisses me off so much
