To Upgrade now or to Upgrade later (Graphics and Processor)

My questions are simple:

I have a 256 MB 7900 GS graphics card, but I was considering upgrading to a 7900 GTX or 7950 GTX 512 MB card. My question is, would it be cheaper to purchase them now, while they are still being manufactured or later when they may not be manufactured. When I purchased my dell 9300 (which is my backup notebook), I noticed that when the 7800 GO GTX cards were no longer being manufactured, the prices on them sky rocketed. So what do you recommend I do? Upgrade now or upgrade later? Also what is the prices of a 7900 GTX or 7950 GTX from Dell spare parts? I tried to get a quote but they are giving me the run around.

My other question is pretty much the same as the first but it regards the processor. Currently, I have a 1.7 GHZ Core Duo Processor, but I wanted to upgrade to a T7200 Core 2 Duo. Is the speed difference significant enough to warrant purchasing now? Or should I wait till later for those processors to drop in price? When do you anticipate them dropping significantly?

Thank you for your time and recommendations, I take them very seriously.

Well a few things, can you actually upgrade the video card on your notebook (I'm assuming this is a notebook)? Or is it integrated into the motherboard?

Why do you need an upgrade? Is it performing poorly now?
The speed increase would be moderate to the Core 2 Duo, but I'd expect you wouldn't notice for most tasks.

I'd say save your money, wait for the next platforms from Intel and AMD and buy a new system when you actually need it.

I would upgrade the CPU to the T7200 and keep the 7900gs, just flash the card into thinking it is a 7900gtx.....problem solved and you save $$$$$

Thanks, I won't upgrade the graphics card and I will wait on the processor until the core 2's drop in price. What about ram is it worth it to buy 2x2GB sticks at a cost of 240 bucks or should I just be happy with 2x1GB sticks for now on my notebook?

depends on what you use it for, unless your doing high res. photoshop work then I would stay w/ 2gb total. You can check and see how much ram your using and this will let you know if you should add more, check it when you are playing a game or multitasking.

if you want to enjoy your lappie, just go ahead and upgrade, you don't want to be in the same boat as me...stuck with an i9300 and hopelessly looking for a 7800 GTX...
