m9750 delayed till 1st week of August? - Page 4

Yep, hopefully it's just a matter of weeks for the early birds.
I just moved in to Phase 5, Production Phase 1 - Assembly....Looks like the end of June my laptop will be shipped
post #63 of 163
nice config... that looks like a killler lappy
post #64 of 163
Well If the M9750 does not ship this month I am going to cancel and continue to use my current lappy and desktop. The main reason is that the DX10 vid cards will be comming available. And with the current vid cards offered by alienware for $600 a piece and the release of santa Rosa. I am thinking why not wait? With $4k invested into a lappy It should last for a few years. I am thinking that with all the delays and AW's wish to have the baddest lappy on the planet why not include these items? I have been following the game Crysis and its something that I would really like to Play with full options enabled One should expect that from the best gaming "desktop replacement". Processors I dont know crap about But It seems to me that With the release of DX10 on the horizon and Nvidas Lack of supplying SLI drivers for vista Why Invest in dual vid cards only to have to replace them in 3 months If in fact you are buying this for a gaming laptop. Sure the current config will shred with the current games on the market but we are talking what 6 months till the DX10 optimized games hit the market? I know there is always the Bigger Better system just around the corner. But since there has been so many delays and its not Officially released yet Why not push back the release of the 9750 for an additional 2 months and utilize the DX 10 cards? Or are they saving that for the Ridiculous mALX refit?
Sorry I have had too much time to consider the possibilities and My brain usually gets in the way. I have conceded that if the M9750 ships before July I will be OK but one more delay and I will cancel and Wait for the DX10 compatable system.
Anyone else have the same feelings or concerns?

I do, if it actually gets delayed to August I'm going to cancel as well.

If you really want to play crysis with full ops then you should cancel your order as you would need to spend a lot of money just upgraing to DX10 and SR ( I havnt heard that you can use DX10 with C2D) on a 4k+ system...
Honestly, there's no reason I can think of that DX10 won't be compatible with many different chipsets...it's more a feature of the OS and the video hardware/firmware than what chip is running your computer.

That being said, although games are going to be using features of DX10 within 6 months, I don't expect to see any games that require DX10 for at least a couple of years. Not everyone is able to upgrade their computers every year, and gaming companies are aware of that.

If I had the option, I would probably wait...but I've been waiting to get a laptop for at least a year, and I figured now was the time to buy, before I go more crazy.

I just got bumped back to phase6 today. I've been told that my machine will be shipping in a week or so.
id say the best idea is..if you have waited a long time and caint wait any longer(orders in april) cancel....and get a system with SR and Dx10 if possible
If you can wait a little longer go for it...

I agree with you guys. If the laptop is delayed till August I might as well cancel and order the m9750 when it's offically released. Perhaps other color options will be available too... But Steath Black is Bad @SS!

I've also put off buying a laptop for so long that I'm not prepared to wait any longer just to be on the bleeding edge of technology for an extra 6-9 months. Especially if that means dealing with Vista and its current myriad of issues.

Check your status online, I am not the only one whose laptop is moving thru the phases now. Looks like they got their cases in early. I just moved into Phase 6 today

hey if you look at the aW website(mainpage) an ad about the 9700 will be up... when they do that usually it means there trying to sell out of a product for a new one coming out. ANd ive read that the 9700 will be taken off the site a few weeks after the release of the 9750 so it could be soon for the release. maybe this will finally be the real release date. Its been a very long wait. So guys who think fo canceling and waiting till the release. wait one or two moredays.. c ur status' and see if its worth canceling.

and also n the 9750 page.. the build time is 5 days.. so it should bbe ready very song if there are not anymore delays. so..

the WAIT could finally be OVER!!!!

and the first one to get theirs... id say deserves Braggin RIghts

i'm still on phase 4 but I orderd mine kinda late. (4/26) Unless AW is taking care of the early orders first or taking care of the more expensive orders first so those peeps won't cancel. My m9750 order total is low compared to some that configured their units over $3500 +
post #75 of 163
well the way i think it is going since they got swamped with the first two days of orders they took the orders that cleared for money the first got them on the line and then figured out weeks later that they were a bad batch sent the case back to arimia... got hem back finally and now are getting back to just the first orders for the second time. then the later orders will come next. I had an order placed on april 4 so i was an early order and it was on an AMEX so it cleared right after the order. I was in phase 4 right after placing the order online.

Well Its kinda BS that they have had My money for the last month and a half, A Major company should not charge you till the product actually ships. I inquired about a a M series including the DX 10 compatible vid cards and I got this response

"In response to your question, we do have it as an upcoming product. It is currently in the Research and Development stage; however, we do not yet have a definite time frame for its launch.

Alienware constantly looks into offering the latest "perks" offered in the computer technology field, especially in improving the efficiency of systems currently offered. Like any other Alienware system offered, these new components go through our extensive testing process for quality control, compatibility and optimum high-level system performance. Please rest assured that as soon as it is available, it will appear on our website.

We recommend that you check our website regularly for the most recent updates. You could also subscribe to our newsletter in our website www.alienware.com if you want to receive our latest news and information on our new products.

Please do not hesitate to contact Alienware's Sales Department at 1-800-494-3382 if you have any questions or concerns. Our office hours are from 9:00 A.M. to 11:30 P.M. (Eastern) on weekdays and from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Saturdays."

Sounds Like the same ole Stuff we get for the M9750 which still hasn't shipped

I also Inquired about the shipping costs since I am only 2 hours away from the MFG. And the shipping seemed tad too high. So I checked with Fedx I included a Bigger Box , 10 extra Pounds, And insurance for $5k and it was still Less than Half of what AW charges for shipping and This is the response I got

"In regards to your inquiry, be advised that the shipping costs that show in the original configuration of your order are correct. All of our systems are sent via FedEx insured for the protection of our customers. We know there are less expensive alternatives out there, but our current carrier is the one that provides us with the best protection and insurance plans for our shipments.

It is important to bear in mind that part of the shipping charges shown represents what FedEx charges for this type service and are not imposed by our company. However, the shipping cost includes not only the shipping charges, but also packaging and handling. What we do is to use an Alienware black box and then place the black box inside a plain brown box. The reason behind this is to deter theft of our mobile systems. Mobiles are a hot item to steal right now and more so if it is screaming the name Alienware. Bear in mind that this process is more expensive for Alienware as we are using two boxes to ship one product in instead of one box; however, we want our systems to arrive to our customers safe and sound.

If you have more questions regarding this or any other topic do not hesitate to contact us again. We will gladly assist you."

So Does Aw make Fedx Package their Laptops? Yea Right. I am starting to Believe AW is Full of S**t. Packaging It in an extra White box to Discourage Thievery? I believe that is why there is insurance On the shipping. I am sorry This sounds Like a Complete Load of crap to me. The more I wait for this Laptop The more I Get pissed off. I mean Its truly only a difference of Maybe $50 of shipping But i just wanted to see The reaction of the company and I get get this complete load of Crap. My good friend works for FedX for the last 17 yrs and this blows his mind.

" FedEx First Overnight® Residential Surcharge2.20Fuel Surcharge9.95 Total 83.65" FedEx Priority Overnight® (+)Residential Surcharge2.20Fuel Surcharge6.39Total 53.69" FedEx Standard Overnight® (+)Residential Surcharge2.20Fuel Surcharge5.74Total 48.24"; FedEx 2Day® (+)Residential Surcharge2.20Fuel Surcharge3.38Total 28.38" FedEx Express Saver® (+)Residential Surcharge2.20Fuel Surcharge2.73Total 22.93"

Is is Just me? I have wanted an AW for a Long time , I know it is expensive to Have an AW But why bend us over on the Shipping charges? Its only a difference of maybe $50-75$ BUt its the Point that makes me Question it. I would Gladly pay an extra $100 to have the friggin thing but This load of crap Saying that FedX charges them extra For FedX to Pack the AW Box in a Plain Brown Box? OMG its almost Laugable Like FedX is gonna Pack Crap for ya. If they actually do its Because the customer Pays Insurance on that Item, And its an Item that gets jacked on a regular Basis, Whos Fault would that be? This Is not The kind of BS I would have expected from Aw I have refered Many Peeps to buy from AW Because once upon a time they were #1 in customer satisfaction.

I apologize if i read the above Emails wrong. But I do not think I did
The more I wait and the more I read The more I get upset.
The ole saying Ignorance is Bliss, Some one hit me with a big stick so I can turn off my brain and wait patiently for this Sweet lappy
post #77 of 163
*hits him with a big stick* :P

Alienware is in the end a company, and their purpose is to make money, it isn't a non-profit organization. If you don't like their particular way of doing it, then by all means go somewhere else.
The fact of the matter is there is no company out there that charges exactly what the shipping company quotes because they are charging for shipping AND handling (i.e. cost of packaging, man hours to package, etc). Oh and Alienware's email states that they pack it in two boxes, not that FedEx packs it in a second box. Sure it may be insured, but do you really want your laptop stolen, have to wait the time to verify that the shipment was stolen, wait more time to get your money, wait to order and build the system again and then hope the second shipment doesn't get stolen?
As for taking our money and making us wait? Hell, we all knew what we were getting into when we ordered a computer that wasn't officially released yet. As I recall when I ordered mine I was told about 5 different times that it is an ESTIMATED shipping date. Also, If you haven't noticed just about every company in the world is holding onto your money as long as they can... those extra days to process deposits? Do you really think it takes that long to verify funds these days? It is simply the bank's way of earning interest on your money for one or two extra days.
Yes Alienware makes great computers, but they aren't doing this for our good, they're doing it to make a profit. Show me a company in this day and age that doesn't do similar practices and I'll show you a company that is headed for bankruptcy.
Well said, burgundian. I fail to see why people get so worked up over shipping - obviously, Alienware puts a margin on the shipping - and also attempts to cover some of their overhead costs. If they shipped for Fedex cost only, you'd pay the markup somewhere else. As for taking your money early, that too is said up front.

besides they are charging 50-60 dollars for Fedex ground now... probably from complaints from people like you. How can you get so worked up over 40-50 dollars more in shipping when you are playing 4-5k for a unit anyways?
I'm glad they've taken my money early. It's doing a great job of holding my place in line. That's the whole point of pre-ordering.
And AW certainly isn't the first or only company to charge a premium for shipping, and from what I hear, they do a good job of it.
