Gateway MT6705 Downgrade to XP Audio

Thread Starter
Hi all, glad I found this forum, and I hope maybe someone can help.

I have a Gateway MT6705 Notebook that I want to downgrade from Vista to XP. I already got past the SATA driver problem and have XP Pro installed. But for the life of me - I cannot find an Audio driver that works. It says its a Sigmatel STAC 9250 audio chip, and it's an Intel 945GML Chipset. I've tried every driver possible and cannot make the audio work. Funny thing is - Device Manager shows no problems - but Ctrl Panel says No Audio Device exists - other than Codecs.

Anyone do this already? Gateway will not help as it came with Vista.

SOLVED

Gotta make sure you got the stupid MS 888111 patch installed. Duh.
Then the older 5.1 Sigmatel Drivers worked fine.

Hi Indy, Can you please help me and link me to the SATA drivers and audio drivers that you used on the Gateway MT6705 for Windows XP. I have the SAME laptop with the same problem. Appreciate your help. pg64159 pguerr@verizon.net

I looked on Microsoft's website...how did you get the 888111 patch? Did you have to call MS, as it is not posted for download? thanks,

Sata Driver problem...

I tried to install XP, used F6 to load the INtel Driver and had no success...How did you address the SATA driver issue, I kept hitting the following prompt: "Insert the disk labeled: Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver into drive A: Press ENTER when ready..." I hit ENTER as stated and nothin'...only other choice was F3 to quit. Any suggestion would be of significant help and thanks in advance.

1) Copy ALL the files in this zip attachment to a EXTERNAL floppy (USB) disk
http://www.newnanpc.com/software/sata/sata.zip

2 ) REBOOT

3) PRESS F6 QUICKLY WHEN PROMPTED

4) WHEN PROMPTED, USE the ICH7 chipset (MT6705 belongs to ICH7 chipset family)

That should do the trick

Got the same message as the first couple of times... "Insert the disk labeled: Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver into drive A: Press ENTER when ready..." I updated the BIOS to version 77.12 which according to gateway supports both Vista and XP and still nothin' doin'

Now to dovetail on what I said previously, I did use the ICH7 Driver, it did reconize the drive, I was able to do a format, but after it formatted I received the: "Insert the disk labeled: Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver into drive A: Press ENTER when ready..." prompt... Not sure what to do with this one...

Just dealt with a MT6705 for a customer of ours - just thought I'd share my experience. I loaded the SATA driver using nLite, as the notebook has no floppy, and I encountered no issues with this. The only drivers I really had any issue getting were the Audio and Modem drivers - but Gateway lists them as "Vista only". Go ahead and download those, as they're XP compatible as well. Best of luck.

I have posted a solution to this particular issue on this forum. This is the link http://www.notebookforums.com/thread208212.html

Hope it helps to get the job done. I managed to install Windows XP SP2 with a CD that someone lent me so I can't help with that problem. Buit I think only you need is to get the proper drivers for you SATA hard drive.

Cheers

XP drivers for Gateway t-1625

Southbridge Chipset; Dell R134875

LAN; Realtek PCIE_Install_5664

Video; Dell R163694; “Right-click” “update driver” from Device Manager, manually target and install the driver as if you had a disk. One profile works the other doesn't.

Sound ; Have SP2, dotnetfx 1.1 and 2.0, then install XP hotfix kb888111, Realtek/ATI HDMI_R168, Gateway cab D00664-001-001. Worked for my speakers, can't test HDMI.

Webcam; “Right-click” “update driver” from Device Manager

Wifi; Realtek 1878B

Good Luck!
