Inspiron 9400 idles at 50% cpu load, WTF!?!

Thread Starter
Recently my inspiron 9400 had been acting up. The battery no longer charges, i had to replace the graphics card (that was my fault), and now the cpu idles with a 50% cpu load. Can anybody help me fix this problem?

Whats eating the CPU?

I had this exact same problem. Turned out that I had some spyware (cookies) that were running at 50% load. I used ad-aware to clean it up. But after a while the damn cookies were back running at 50% load while idle. So I dumped IE and installed Firefox and have never had the problem since.

As stated above, your probably infected - if you can't fix it by running scans then I've always used the only option left - format and re-install - works 100% of the time.

I fixed a high CPU problem by not formatting and just reinstalling my OS. The virus or trojan was a bad OS replacement file. So I didn't have to reinstall everything. Just look up one of my past threads - I posted on this before.

But I have to reformat and reinstall everything anyway because my WIN XP Media Center corrupted -- my US TV video doesn't work.

And now I got another 20% CPU usuage problem from looking at sites from an MSN page link! Totally sucks! It's my dthml.exe process that's a problem.

being infected is certainly a possibility. Others have posted here a problem like this happening with a corrupt svchost.exe

Check your task manager and see what program is eating up the processor.
